Metro 6.2.3 won't record soft synths

Postby fastlanephil » Wed Jan 26, 2005 1:53 am

I installed Metro 6.2.3 and did some editing and mixing down. Everything worked fine. Then I loaded an instrument into ST2 or GPO or tried NI's B4 and instead of being able to record I get this alert message.

"The core audio driver returned either an invalid or null audio stream."

The stop button then starts to flicker a bit. Metro 6.2.3 crashed once also. When I use the previous version it records fine. I have energy saver at "Highest".

Before I upgraded to Metro 6.2.3 I installed Apple's latest security update that came out today and then repaired permissions.

iMac G5 1.8ghz.

Metro 6.2.3 records with built-in audio but not when using the Tascam US-122. I Just tried the M-Audio Transit and i'm having the same problem with it also. I keep getting that same alert message.

>New: If a core audio device returns an invalid stream
>while recording Metro now stops.

So what's the definition of an invalid stream?

In your particular setup was everything on and awake before Metro was launched?

I used to have problems with having midi in running but midi out offline.

A shutdown and left for a minute and then a startup kicked it back into action. If I was ever needing to fault find, this shutdown tactic is my first step.

Also try changing the Metronome from internal to Metronome. This seems to be a problem related to internal ports.

Metro 6.2.3 won't record soft synths

Postby fastlanephil » Wed Jan 26, 2005 11:11 am

I changed the metronome to metronome from internal and it worked fine with the M-Audio Transit. When I hooked up the Tascam US-122 and I couldn't select any third party plugins. The Apple soft synth would always show up. I then selected the Tascam US-122 in the metronome and saved Metro prefs and it looks like every thing is working right again. :)

Thanks for the help.

I tried plugging in my USB quattro but I still could not reproduce this problem. If someone can give me more details I would like to investigate this further.

For example, what OS are you running? What version of Quicktime?

Metro 6.2.3 won't record soft synths

Jerm,
I'm using OSX 10.3.7 and QT 6.5.2

I started tossing questionable plugins and finally got down to Native Instrument's B4 Demo and it look's like it was the problem because now I can load and play every thing with metronome selected in the metronome when using my Tascam US-122.

I have recently discovered the source of the problem and while it only rears its ugly head seldomly and only in certain situations, it does appear to be a problem with Metro that will be addressed in the next (pre)release.
