Quicktime reverb and midi

Postby max » Sat Dec 18, 2004 7:10 pm

I'm having a problem in Quicktime 5. When I export a midi file from within Quicktime to an AIF the resulting file has what sounds like a large hall reverb applied to it. I need to tone this down a bit or turn it off and I have tried adding a sysex macro in my Metro document thinking Quicktime would respond to a Roland GS macro to change the reverb type. This had no effect whatsoever.

I am using an old Powermac OS 8 with Metro 3.5 and Quicktime 4 so I cannot upgrade and this is the only way I could figure out to transfer MIDI to AIF.

I would really appreciate any help as I completely stumped.

Thanks.

Have you tried sending it the reverb level MIDI controller? I think it is either 91 or 93.

Thanks. :D Controller 91 did the trick. It was right in front of my face the whole time.

I have one more question if you don't mind. I am now to trying change the reverb type using sysex but I think it has to be sent on track 0. The event editor, though, only goes from tracks 1-99. Any idea how this can be done?

Thanks again.

There is no distinction made between tracks as far as the Quicktime synth is concerned. It only distiguishes between MIDI channels. However, Metro does not send sysex to the Quicktime synth so it is irrelevant.

I know you don't want to hear it but you should upgrade to Metro 6 and use softsynths to accomplish what you want. I doubt you will be disappointed.

Thanks for sharing your knowledge. Believe me, Metro 6 is on my wish list but I need to save more to upgrade from my current setup. No one told me home recording would be such an expensive hobby!
