Record through a Plugin....

Postby MediaUnion » Sun Mar 16, 2003 8:08 pm

Jerm,
In your response to sreeves (Audiosoap thread) you said "Apply the plug-in as a real-time plug-in by dragging it to the effects window and then use the Mix Audio Tracks function to produce the desired file."

Does Metro 6 give me the ability to set up an effect before recording the track and record the track through a VST compressor plug in?

Thanks,

Mediaunion,

I guess it depends on what you mean by 'through'. By using Software-Audio-Thru (switches menu), you can route incoming audio through the plug-in so that you can hear what it WILL sound like. When recording is done, the audio file will correspond to the audio as it sounded before it went through the plug-in (dry sound) but since it is still routed through the plug-in, on playback, it should sound as it did on record (wet sound). To get the final audio (wet) simply select and Mix-Audio-tracks.

Note that Software-Audio-Thru has some limitations. It delays by at least 1 audio-packet-size. It will only work well on devices that have a unified callback (no iMic) and the audio input packet-size must equal the audio output packet-size. A unified callback means that the driver calls the application once for both audio input and audio output. This is the case for most audio drivers and all ASIO drivers. Be careful when using Software-Audio-Thru, feedback is likely without headphones.

This may be more info than you wanted but what the hell.

Audio Through....

Postby MediaUnion » Sun Mar 16, 2003 11:45 pm

No, not too much info at all.

It helped a lot as I have an iMic currently.

Are there known limitations with Firewire audio interfaces like the MOTU 828 and Metro? I'm waiting a week to get the new M-Audio Delta 410 Firewire. I have no idea if ASIO plays a part in the 410 Firewire or not.

Thanks
