New to using OSX AUs and Metro

Postby rlwilliams » Tue Oct 12, 2004 2:16 pm

I'm new to using Metro with OSX. Can someone tell me about the Apple effects that are present in the PlugIns window. Why are there no presets available in the drop down menu? For amateurs like me, I'd like to have a few to get me started, instead of creating my own.

Anyone know about presets, or do you have some tried and true presets that work that you could share?

Thanks,

Ronnie

The AUMatrixReverb should have presets and they are great.
Better still than changing them - unlock the wet/dry padlock symbol on the effects/synths window and have say 50% dry and 70% wet....for a reverb that sounds less distant......and perhaps more real.

As far as the AUGraphicEQ goes, just tweak the faders and save the setups you like. For speed hold down the option key and drag across the whole range and you can make a wave very quickly.
Hold down shift to select multiple faders and then they move up and down as a group.

If a plug-in is an Audio Unit and a VST, should one of them not be in Metro? or should you have both. Seems if they do the same thing, why have both. This would reduce the list and clutter of the Plug-ins window.

Any thoughts?

either or I would have thought but read a bit here.....I have seen threads where people say the 2 formats do sounds different.....also sometimes one format may have a minor bug the other doesn't.

and heres a bunch of AU's

most message leavers are logic users so they tend to be looking for AU's as VST doesn't work anymore without a wrapper. With metro you have both worlds.

What are "Music Device V2"s that are listed in the Plugins Menu?

Music Devices are soft synthesizer AudioUnits (AUs).

You need both AU and VST plug-ins because Cubase for example will not do AU and Logic will not do VST.

Cubase refuses use AU since they developped the VST technology and Logic refuses to do VST since the AU format is an Apple development.

I sure hope METRO keeps using both without having the customer forced to purchase a AU or VST wrapper.

Steinberg and Emagic/Apple at least.
AU is still a baby in the development stakes.
