Input MIDI notes in Drum mode?

Post your questions/answers to older Metro products such as Metro 5, 5 SE, 4.5, 4, 3.5 etc.

o.k., but what about in Drum mode?

Postby Agent5Audio » Mon Sep 13, 2004 8:31 am

I just got Metro 5 to run on my old G3 and it seems a little harder to learn than other apps I've tried, but the capabilities seem to be there.

On this topic: I also would like to be able to point a click notes exactly on grid points. I see and now understand step recording, but what about in drum mode?

Thanks!

Try using note edit quantizing from the switches menu.

maybe this is the same thing but you can use the pencil tool and click/hit the piano roll on the left and notes will appear in the graphic editor window at spacing matching the current selected note length.

Snap to grid?

Postby Agent5Audio » Tue Sep 14, 2004 7:00 am

What I was really looking for is the ability to click anyplace in time and either insert a note per the current settings at the nearest "grid" point or at least establish the "cursor" at the nearest "grid" point as a starting point for the step recording method outlined.

Let me ask it this way: In step recording, how do you input a chord? When you click on the piano roll, if the "cursor" steps forward, how do you go back one step so that you can input another note at the same time?

And with 'Note Edit Quantizing' on, I didn't see any difference. Should I be able to drag a note and have it snap to the nearest "grid" point based on the current note length setting?

Thanks,

Note edit quantizing will quantize and drag or insert to the current note length not the grid position. Thus if you want quarter notes, select a quarter note from the popup or press 4.

To enter chords, you can command-click on the pencil tool to select the chord and then command-click on the left-hand piano keybord to insert the chord.

Alternatively you can use your MIDI controller keyboard to step record chords with the keyboard tool above the arrow tool.

Or in the Metro for dummies guide (no offence meant)...
In the Tracks Window Click on the snap button > choose the value desired. Then go to the Swiches menu and select Note Edit quantizing, and that should do the trick. Using the pencil cursor the note will atomatically snap to the given value. Lets say you choose to quantinize on an 1/8 grid. As long as you have the corsor generally close to where you want it , it will atomatically pop in in time to the nearest 1/8 note in absolute time.
