Gerald,

We were able to narrow this down by starting in safe mode. Have you tried this again yet?

yes, no help

Postby Gerald angus » Sun Aug 08, 2004 3:48 pm

Yes, I did a safe boot and things are a bit different however the problem is still there. The popups are getting a little more visible.
Now, the popup's are there but they are kind-of "ghosted".
That is, I can see where they are trying to appear with an outline, but the colors are reversed somehow. As the popup appears it covers the lines & spaces of the stave in spots but the (what would be) ledigible text/or graphic words are in white, so are unusable and certainially not ledigible. I hope this explains it well enough. It really seems like some kind of display glitch.
Are there no other reports of this anywhere? Is it just me/my system. Any other OS X users out there with this phenomanon ? This bazarre thing is a reality for me here, what else can I do/try ?
thanks

I would try going to the monitors control panel and change the number of colors setting.

Since I use a non apple LCD monitor I sometimes get wrongly coloured items namely the apple logo at startup and a background colour mask in photoshop......the later solved by going to another color display profile and back again.....till the next startup.

Boy! switching to 256 colors on a LCD is rather scary.

As far as your problem goes have you tried all of metro's color schemes in the setup menu?

OK now

Postby Gerald angus » Sun Aug 08, 2004 8:48 pm

Well, that's a new one on me.
Cleared things up right away.
So, how can this actually be resolved so I don't have to go through that every time ?
Perhaps a note to ATI ? Apple ?
Crazy
Thanks again guys

Which color scheme is the bad one for you?
Or was it the color change?

scheme change ?

Postby Gerald angus » Mon Aug 09, 2004 6:37 am

I left the color calibration alone at the default for my LCD here. If I can find any further specifics /RGB values etc. I'll send them along to you.
It seems that by just sending the LCD display back to a lower screen (1024X820,thousands) resolution and then bringing it back again to a higher res. (1280X1024,millions) did the trick.
It was kinda like giving the graphics department a kick in the butt.
Happily, even after a shut down and re start it's still OK..
Thanks again, Jerm & Scoot.

This makes is pretty evident (not definite though) that this is not a Metro problem.

Yes, it certainly seems that the problem was on my end here.
Metro seems just fine and I hope I have not seemed to fault Metro.
I do intend to send a note to ATI after I check a few more things with there driver here and some other suspected problems with other graphic apps. I use, some of which do not exit very cleanly and perhaps affect my screen draws.
Thanks again

Ah thanks scoot, must have just come out today.. will d'load all very soon.
Pretty sure I have the latest ATI driver there is, but will see what happens.
X can only get better, usually, that is.
Have not read the blurb on the update yet. Was out all day at the day job.
Thanks for the heads-up.

Got OS X update

Postby Gerald angus » Thu Aug 12, 2004 5:04 pm

Well I d'loaded the new OS X update and don't see any updated versions in my ATI files. Actually I had been to the ATI web site a couple weeks prior and got the latest update anyway so I guess I was a jump ahead there.
Can't say that I've noticed any real big improvements with the new OS X version yet.
The main improvement here remains how nicely Metro is working for me now. I have not had those notation window problems since. That Jolt we gave it by toggeling back to another screen resolution really did the trick it seems.
Perhaps my imagination but in general, the LCD screen even has a new crispy look to it.
Thanks again for the great support here. Gerald

This problem turns out to be a bug in the OS. When the display is set for thousands of colors or less, the notation window popups will not popup. Metro 6.2.5 has a workaround for this.
