I concur with scoot.

I really recommend though, that you shut down, turn the machine off and then turn it on again. Logging off is not sufficient.

Try the menu again after rebooting.

Do you have the same problem in the change ports dialog? That is, the popups appear behind the dialog window?

OK, all help understood,,,
I will Archive all older versions (including any OS9's too), do a compleat shut down, then a restart and give it another try. If it is still the same I' ll trash the prefs. and go the requalify route.
Thanks, tab

No Change...

Postby Gerald angus » Tue Jul 20, 2004 8:57 pm

Well, I went through all the steps as mentioned in my previous post, including trashing prefs, full shutdown and re qualifying Metro G4 6.2.1.3.
I still get nothing when I click on that clef in the setup notation window.
I was going to try it in OS9 here but may take a while to get it all set up and re-qualifying again as I do not use OS9 for Metro or much else anymore.
I did' t mean to make an issue of this and am really quite happy with Metro and having notation at all, and I don' t need all those SATB clefs anyway.
Right now, as I plug in notes in the graphic editor say from C3 and up I end up with a notation of the notes on a treble clef. Then if I plug in some lower harmonizing notes on another track, C3 or below Metro automatically adds and displays them on a Bass clef. I' m OK with that. It's just on that further note..., if I double click on either clef in the notation window, up comes that notation setup window and I can page through the various staves (tracks) and have some other options but clicking on that pictured clef does nothing here. It just sits there and stares at me.
Also, Jerm asked "Do you have the same problem in the change ports dialog? That is, the popups appear behind the dialog window?"
No, that's seems to work just fine for me.
Anyway........
Thanks to Scoot and you Jerm for your concern, time and support.
This place is great and so is Metro.

Did you ever mention the panther version?

I have panther here on an imac and I can see if I get the same result.

Gerald,

I tried this on several machines and cannot get what is happening on your machine to happen. The only thing I can recommend (until we can reproduce this) is to try downloading Metro again. This may not do anything but is worth a try.

If you have a G4 then try the version you haven't tried yet; G4 or non G4.

My panther is fine.

On the right hand side of the notation dialog box - where does metro get the names for the instruments for the popup?

I suppose if they don't appear in a popup the clefs won't work either?

This is just me thinking about this message from gerald:
I also realized that I do not even get those popup menus on my Notation Window like for note selection etc.
I'm missing that too right?

Perhaps you could try booting up with the shift-key down (safe-mode) and hold it down until the finder fully loads (so extensions do not load).

Intresting... development

Postby Gerald angus » Thu Jul 22, 2004 11:43 am

Well, I did a safe boot and have an Intresting development to report..
All the popups now appear even the ones I forgot about on the main notation page where various notes, etc, can be selected. Also the Clef selections are there and the 100 or so instruments too.
HOWEVER, In all of these newly found popups, the text and background colors are bad. Bad enough to make them unreadable. the background is all white and the text is like faded or something.
The safe boot seems to have brought the functionality back. But not sure what to do about all of this..
Any ideas out there now about what to do ?
thanks

That is really bizarre. I think perhaps you could try either

• booting normally and only press the shift key after the login dialog
• create a new user and see if that user has the same problem
• clear all the items in the startup items in accounts system preferences

Any of these methods will allow your drivers to load but not your 3rd party extensions.

If the popups work then we have narrowed down a little further. I am thinking it may be related to the video driver or something.

Success !!!

Postby Gerald angus » Thu Jul 22, 2004 1:22 pm

Well, Well Well.... zippitydoodaa!
Everything is back to normal now..
First I dumped some startup items (some really unneeded actually) but that did not solve anything. Then I double checked the Aolisen fonts for the right locations. OK there.
When you said the word "Driver", that lit a light up here, as a few months back I updated my graphics card to an ATI 9000 and sure enough I noticed that I had re-calibrated both of my monitors to a custom setting which I thought looked a little better, so for the heck of it I set them back to their defaults. Well that seems to have fixed it !!
All the popups are back, even a few I never knew existed !!
Strangely, I had not noticed any other visual problems with my system.
At least so far so good.
Please accept my apology for taking up so much time with this, as all the fault was here at my end. It's scary knowing a few little bits or bytes can cause so big a problem.
I don't think I was ever faulting Metro and hope that it was not ever taken that way.
Thanks for seeing this through with me,
Gerald :D :D

Now there's a funny thing. Imagine setting up a basic user that may have more options or popups available then the main admin. hehehe.
I must remember that the next time I'm in trouble.

That's scary. A setting that hides popups.
How did you live like that?

Just in Metro so far

Postby Gerald angus » Thu Jul 22, 2004 4:38 pm

No, the popups were not a system wide problem, just in metro and only related to the Notation pages.
Actually there's another small oddity with the Main notation window although it is not any problem but, when I drag the window around to re-position it, only the mouse pointer moves and only after I release the mouse pointer the window jumps to where I wanted to move it.. Sort of a delayed reaction thing..
I've never seen that behavior before.
Thanks scoot...

Notation Window problems are back again...

Postby Gerald angus » Sun Aug 08, 2004 9:31 am

Well ....... my Notation Window problems are back again...
ie: The little pop-up windows do not appear like they are supposed to when trying to select things like other note values,
expressions, etc. also, no clef popup window in set-up page. btw, all other popups in Metro seem OK.
Strangely enough, they are actually there, but just not visible, because if I move the mouse pointer arrow
to where I want my selection... it works ! I have actually developed a work-around here by remembering where the locations are.. alas, a blind work-around at best, and not fun at all.
BTW, Metro G4 6.2.1.3, OS X Panther, Dual G4 876 , Mirrored Doors, 1.25 Gig Ram, ATI Radeon 9000 Mac Pro Ed. 128mg, Apple 17" LCD display,
M-Audio USB Quatro , No startup apps in Accounts.
I have no other graphics display probs. anywhere else in sys here to date in fact things are generally much better with the new card.
The last time, I was able to fix it here (seemingly) by re-adjusting my monitor calibration settings in SYS/displays/color prefs. and poof the problem went away, ......... for a while.
That does not change things any more. Perhaps it was something else in reality.
I also tried the ATI display utility options but to no avail.
I reinstalled my graphics card driver which is right up to date.
I even set it up in OS 9 (+ re qualify) ( same version ) and there is no problem there, it works fine.
It seems to be just with Panther here.
I really love Metro and I Could use some "new things to try" ideas.
Thanks much.
