No images on website

Postby lesag002 » Thu Jul 22, 2004 8:53 am

For a while now, when I go to the Sagan website, no images can load. I've tried Safari, Camino, and IE 5.2. All I get are question marks or x's for all images on a web page. Very frustrating! What's up?

Did you try flushing your browser cache? I know they look ok in Safari, Netscape and IE. I have also seen the images load ok on windows boxes.

I emptied the cache in Safari, and it didn't work.

The web site designer says that you should empty the cache and if that does not work:
"If the problem persists, find out what kind of internet connection they are using (dial up, cable, dsl...) and who their provider is so we can see if there is a trend with certain users."

I will contact her again to see what she says. :(

I connecting from my work computer, which is behind a firewall. Due to all the Windows security issues, they've made the firewall pretty picky about letting things through the server. Is there anything "suspect" about the code/content for the website? I don't know who the ISP is. I can find out though.

It may be because we have hotlinking disabled. This means that you cannot link the images on our site from a site that is not in our approved list. I am not sure why your firewall would be trying to cache our images though.

If you want to test this theory, give me a domain name to allow hotlinking and I will temporarily add it.

I have two DNS servers entered in my ethernet config

192.168.2.5
192.168.2.206

Is this what you are looking for?

The site looks fine when I connect by dial-up (bypassing the network at work).

No. That is your local router's assigned IP. I was thinking more like the name of your firewall (e.g. umn.edu)
