So I know its obvious that you can have midi control data on an audio track such as volume and pan etc.

I see you can also have midi notes and audio on a track and display there part by switching the port between internal and audio output.

Can you get them to play simultaneously?

I think you are little confused on this. The way you switch between them is to select the view popup which contains both notes, drums and audio, vol, etc. The way to make both MIDI and Audio appear in the popup is to install a plug-in that accepts both MIDI and audio and that leads to your next question.

Yes, the audio and MIDI will both be sent to the plug-in.

Examples of plug-ins that take both are ones like the Korg Legacy collection, Vokator, SFX Machine RT, Zebra and many others.
