Newbie with "dumb" question

Postby Paul C » Wed Jun 09, 2004 4:14 pm

In Metro SE and OSX 10.3.4, I have a midi track and I distort the notes on it with an Audio Unit (Crystal). Then I export the MIDI track to a file, which I play in Quicktime Player 6.5.1. How come I do not hear the distorted notes? That's the best I can describe what I am trying to do (amateur in sounds). Any help appreciated.

Paul,

The answer is that MIDI (the notes in the MIDI file) do not describe the sound completely but rather just the pitch, duration and timing among other things. The actual waveform that makes up the sound is contained in the device producing the sound.

With that said, I think what you want to do is to select the Crystal track and then use the Mix-Or-Render-tracks from the file menu to convert the MIDI data to audio. Once it is in audio format it will always describe the same sound and will play as expected in Quicktime Player.
