Metro SE/MIDI Tracks Losing Sounds

Postby Drumkit » Fri May 28, 2004 12:43 pm

Help...please,
Has anybody experienced MIDI tracks having data, but no sound generating from them. I'm using Metro SE and loading each Standard MIDI File into a section, thereby creating a set for live performance. The above issue is happening when "after" playing a section or several sections, the next one I attempt to play has a few tracks that have data, but no sound. If I close Metro SE and relaunch it, and play that section again, the sounds will then play for those tracks. However, if I play the previous section(s) again and come back to that section, the sounds are gone again. What could be causing this? Are the previous sections using up memory or something? Can anyone please help???

I'm using:

Metro SE (latest release)
PBG4 15.2/867MHZ/1024RAM/40G
Internal sounds using GM Soundfont bank downloaded from Hammersound

Most likely this will occur if there are controller 7 (volume) or controller 11 (expression) mixed within the MIDI file. When a track fades out, it will set the MIDI device (internal or external) to no volume. All output to the device will subsequently be quiet until a controller 7 is sent to the device will a value greater than 0.

An easy way to see if it is controller 7's is to first ascertain that the all tracks are assigned directly to Metro outputs and then look in the mixer window and see what happens to the faders.

Jerm,
That was it! Thank you so much!!! I was a little confused when I first purchased the program, but as I test it out I'm beginning to see what a great value Metro SE truly is. Great product!!!

It's great the problem is sorted.

I was just wondering if turning off the "play" automation button on the mixer would stop it from occuring?
Doesn't it stop faders moving gobally within metro?

Or is this not in SE?

Scoot,
I'd not thought of that, but now that you mentioned it, the play button on the mixer was on. But how does that work?

pardon?

It's usually on to allow you to hear any changes you have recorded into it?

I guess what I'm asking is if the play button on the mixer window is not activated, controller data is ignored for all tracks from section to section (i.e. a track associated with a mixer channel set at a volume of 100 would be at that volume for that track for each section in a Metro document no matter what controller data is being sent via that track)?

The easiest way to tell if this is true is to try it. You already have a sequence of sections that has the correctly embedded controllers.

I believe it is true though.
