LOSING MIDI CONNECTION!!!!!!!

Postby Gary K. Doty Sr. » Sun Apr 25, 2004 10:54 pm

I am using a eMac 700mhz/512meg(OSX 10.3.3) and I am using a Edirol UM1USB 1X1 midi interface and running Metro 6.1. build 10 i have been using this set up for a while.
I installed edirol driver 1.1.1 and know while i'm recording midi the midi just drops out and i get no midi input, but it will playback existing tracks.
I am running into a Alesis QS6.1
when I go to OsX midi setup and click on test midi I get the old there is a problem hold the restart button and reboot.
Has anyone had these problems?
I even went as far as reformating my hard drive and reinstalling OSX 10.3.3
Is it a Metro problem or a driver porblem?
I've check my system Techtool Deluxe and it finds no problem,
ANY SUGGESTIONS!!!!!!

When I had a similar dropout.......or rather no input only output, Jerm suggested shutting down, and leaving the mac a bit.

It worked....though I don't know why.

If you have been using a midi editor with the Q 6, it may have made it go wonky. I've messed up my nanosynth (Q 6) module a couple of times doing this. Re-initializing the nano was the only fix. Other wise I'd go with the driver of the ederol needing an update.

A system kernel panic indicates a serious problem. Definitely go to the disk utility and try repairing permissions. If this does not work it could be a driver or a hardware problem such as memory. It is not possible for Metro to cause this message.

Found the problem!

Postby Gary K. Doty Sr. » Mon Apr 26, 2004 4:57 pm

Well I found out what was causing the problem.
It was my powered usb hub. It is a USB 1.0 hub and I need to get a 2.0 hub.
How I fixed my problem is I put the usb midi interface direct to the computers usb port and it has been working great.
I had been using this hub all along with no problem but I upgraded the edirol driver for panther and it went crazy! but it working fine now.
Thanks Guy's for the responses.
I have just upgraded to Metro 6.2 and I ready to try it out.
METRO IS THE BEST PROGRAM!!!!!!!!!!!!WITH THE BEST SUPPORT!!!!!!!
Thanks Jeremy!!!!!

I wonder if that points to the panther driver (or panther itself) using power from the USB differently or something?
Problems with hub recognition maybe?
