I totally disagree. I have a 667 Ti and I only start running into performance issues at 7 or 8 tracks. Sure, this is an app that you'll want a powerful comp to use, but all thinks considered, it's way more productive an environment than anything else I've used because it's som simple. For instance, if you use an external AU synth, you can save your patches and have them appear in the same way as any other native sound. So, if I save a sampled trumpet under 'Woodwinds' it will be right there to use with everything else. I don't have to configure an effect, set the midi channel, do this, do that, before it's ready. It is very seamless.

It definitely has it's limitations, but it's a joy to use, and that's one feature that's hard to implement. Metro definitely has it's advantages, but ease of use and a straightforward interface aren't necessarily it's strong points.

I think you 2 garageband'ers are probably using it in 2 different ways.

If there is more effect processing power in the 4 tracks as opposed to the 8, it's going to struggle.

The only way to benchmark it correctly, is both having the same document open.

Maybe polara can send braj instructions on how to seriously slow down the Ti. Obviously the joy for braj is already breaking the 4 audio track limit of SE in garageband and it coping......whereas I'm more interested in the midi tweaking in metro. (just call me multi-take scoot )


As for metro ease of use.......it's pretty straight forward.....it may just need a few tips on initally setting it up to work with.....which is why we are here.
It's far easier than DP or Logic........and my personal favourite......Pro Tools.......which is supposed to be so simple as there are only 2 windows to work in......what they don't say is there's heaps of dialog boxes and settings not in the windows.

You can't directly input any AIFFs, having to import them into iTunes and then drag-n-drop.

You can just drop the aiff from the cd onto a new track in GarageBand. Make a new real instrument, set it to vocal or whatever, no effect, drag the track from the CD and drop it on the new instrument, no itunes needed or required.

Garage band runs fine on the couple of machines I've tested it on, barring my laptop. Those machines being dual 533's with 512mb, and 800mhz IMac G4's. It is picky on my TiBook, but it's a second generation 550 with a 7200 rpm drive and 1 gig of memory.

i tried and tried to let this go, but it was like having a gnat in your ear. so here it goes. umm....why would you save a sampled trumpet under "Woodwinds"? i know it has nothing to do with the point you were making, but a trumpet is a "Brass" instrument.

As i said, i tried to let it go, but as a french horn player, i just couldn't.
