Sorry, my fault, still getting used to the app. I meant it seemed to be working on Internal as opposed to Channel... not built in audio. But it doesn't seem to be working this morning, still only playing QT instruments. Weird.

I was under the impression that using the DLSMusicDevice to hold a soundfont, was the only way to use soundfonts, and that is why it was there.

What I don't understand is, if you have soundfonts why would you want to stick with quicktime/the internal sounds?

There are several soundfonts out there that are a complete GM collection or better......it's just a matter of downloading some.

You should really try the DLS method.....and you may not go back.

The point is, you can use a soundfont in place of the QT instruments without using DLS. With SE, you could only use one soundfont if you use the DLS method. If you replace the QT sounds with a soundfont via the QT preferences, then you can have more. I just want the QT and a replacement, plus all the misc. soundfonts that appear in my screenshot. Without using DLS (which limits me to one, with no effects like reverb, etc.)

This isn't an issue if you have the full version, as you can use as many soundfonts as you like. But with SE, it really is limiting.

So how do you do this?
My QT prefs show me the standard QT synth with no way to add more.
Is this a panther thing or a hack somewhere?

And in SE using one soundfont you can have 16 instruments at once.
How many more do you need?

If you place your sound font banks in /Library/Audio/Sounds/Banks then Quicktime will show them to you in the quicktime dialog (in system preferences) and you will be able to use them as the default internal sounds.

I just set Fluid R3 as the default and it sounds very nice. So, this is the only way to use soundfonts without DLS? Oh well, Fluid is pretty sweet, I can live with that for now. They sound much more 'pro' than the default QT voices anyway.

If anyone can recommend any others, let me know.

Here is a link to some very good large sound fonts!

I recommend realfont. Although be careful because you might need a PC to decompress some of these.

A new sfArk converter that decompresses Soundfonts is now available for Mac OS X. Find it here.

jerm,
would it be possible in the pgm column of the tracks window to :
be able to hear the sounds changing without to tape " ok " at each time.
just one we point the sounds changing it would be interesting to hear the new sound ( it's fine when a sequence is playing )

I have no idea what you are asking. Can you try to rephrase your question.
