Anyone using PreSonus Firestation or Lexicon Omega???

Postby MediaUnion » Tue Dec 16, 2003 12:02 am

Hi All,

I've been experiencing some questionable results from my current USB interface and have started looking around.

There are two leaders at this point:

USB = Lexicon's Omega
Pros-Good name in the recording business, 4 X 2 I/O, 2 MicPres w/ TRS inserts, Coaxial SPDIF, USB bus switches for inputs, 100 db DynamRange,
-118 EIN, small footprint
Cons-Just released Dec 3, 2003

Firewire = Presonus' Firestation
Pros-Firewire, 8 X 8 I/O, Rack mount, 109 db DynaRange
Cons-Not great reviews,

Thoughts anyone?

Kevin,

I have not tried either of those devices however if you are having problems with USB I would recommend getting either PCI or Firewire.

Firewire

I purchased the Presonus Firestation and have been playing with it for a few days. Very nice! At first I had some issues with playback sample rates right after I connected the Firestation but restarted and everything was fine.

Running 8 in/out on my 800Mhz iMac is a little slow but closing windows and turning off the measure/indicator bar helped alot.

Metro 6.1 runs fine and I have yet to have any issue.

Anyone need an Audiophile USB interface?

Hey,

Yes, the lightpipe is there but I don't have an adat or any lightpipe gear...yet.

Another cool thing is that the firestation has a tube circuit on the two mic preamps that adds (in my opinion) warmth. I haven't overdriven the tubes yet but I think that's a possiblity.
