Time Stretch

I wanna find out how to speed up or slow down an audio track just slightly. I've read the documentation but I can't see how a 2 to 1 ratio would create a subtle effect.

I have a completed an audio track recorded at 16 bit / 44100

the time although wasn't relavent (no tick track or metronome) during recording was at 120. I want to speed the track up a little. Please tell me How to do it? I want to speed it up before I add the final vocal and keep the current pitch.

If you are using the full version of Metro you can select the region to expand and select scale time, click the audio button and time stretch. Or you can simply option-drag the region in the graphic editor. This will not work in Metro SE.

I'm sorry, I'm not being clear.... I want to speed the track (audio) up ... is that possible? I would like a step by step. I'm using 6.0 full version & want to go from 120 bpm to about 122 bpm.

If you are using MIDI, simply change the tempo. This will not work if you are using audio unless everything is sliced up into regions.

To do this with audio:

Select the audio in question.

Go to the scale time dialog (option menu) and select compress by 122 to 120. Click on time stretch or if you do not care about pitch changes you can get better quality by clicking on resample.

Yes! Thanks Jeremy. I do care about the quality and I don't mind the track going up in pitch..... so your answer is just what I needed.

I don't quite understand how to use the ratio settings but with this explanation I can get a better idea...

Well, compress will make the waveform compress (if the numerator or first number is greater than the denominator or second number). If the waveform compresses then the audio will play faster by the specified ratio.

(: Hi! Finally got around to testing the time stretch feature on my Metro 6.1, and it seems to not work - the audio comes out sounding like it's underwater even with a 4% change - ratio 100 to 96. Is this common? What's going on?

There are many ways to time stretch depending on what you are stretching. What are you stretching?

(: Hi! Just noticed these replies! Thanks! I thought I had checked the "notify me" box, and assumed there were no replies, since I was notified of Scoot's reply to my question in another thread!

I tried the Speedster download, and so far I am just getting "-192 Resource not found". I downloaded it, unstuffed it, and put the resulting file, "Speedster.component" in the "OS X VST plug-ins" folder, then tried to apply it as an offline audio plug-in to a stereo audio track .

It's listed in the audio plug-ins menu as "Speedster.component". I'm using Metro PowerPC G4 version 6.2.1 - hot off the presses!

As for what am I stretching, one use I have in mind is correcting tempo variations in certain songs so I can beat-match more reliably when DJ-ing. Other than that, I might want to change the tempo of a recording after laying down all the audio tracks. Thanks for the help y'all!
