Mixdown Feedback

Postby axnyslie » Sat Nov 08, 2003 2:21 am

I'm trying to do a complex mixdown involving tracked gutiars and vocals along with sequenced MIDI tracks with external instruments. I'm mixing it with a Behringer MX2004A mixer patced up with a Behringer Patchbay. My G4 soundcard is an Audiophile 2496 so I want to send my mixdown back into it. However I'm getting feedback and phasing sounds since the mix is simultaneously looping through the souncard output. I'm also trying to patch the final mix through an ART Pro VLA tube compressor and I'm getting real bad feedback doing that. Everything works fine when I mix down to my Fostex DAT but I'd rather mix back into Metro so I can do it at 24bit/96kHz and not have to transfer DAT back into the Mac. Is there a step I'm missing to prevent feedback? I'm following the online manual but it's not working.

Well I figured it out. I had to change the settings in the M-Audio control panel so the mixdown track mutes as I'm recording. Excellent!

Although my G4 couldn't handle a 24/96 mixdown while I was running 8 tracks of 24/96 audio and 7 VST plug-ins. Is there a way to make Metro use both my hard drives at the same time?

You can make Metro play from both hard drives by placing the audio files on the appropriate hard drive. As for recording you are limited to 1 drive. I doubt that will make much different though. Perhaps if you have audio tracks and/or Synth plug-ins (VST) you can use the MIX-Audio-tracks menu item to get a stereo sub-MIX. Then, if necessary, archive those tracks to do a final mix.
