Multitrack Recording on the cheap in Metro

I just want to say that v.82 is great! I have had no problems.

Since owning Metro 4.x back in '98 I have only just begun working with true multitrack recording in Metro. Silly me, I never thought to read the manual (I'm an engineer...issues?) and just accepted the fact that you could only click one track into record. (Mono/Stereo tracks)

Technique Tip:
I assume that there are others like me who write for their own pleasure, overdub, and don't need more than 2 inputs. I've been using an Alesis R12 Mixer to premix multiple mics into Left and Right busses then record them using a USB Audiophile.

Well Jerm made provisions for this. I've been using the "Split Stereo tracks" function. This splits the stereo track into two mono tracks. That has been really helpful to capture Live Performances without having to purchase expensive hardware that has more than two inputs. You can always go back and repair/overdub as needed.


Try it out as a test of your process before plunking down any cash for more inputs.

So you're talking about recording 2 mono tracks at once?

A easier way to get to mono tracks to record, is to go to the tracks window and in the input select option make one track L and one track R.
(if you don't see the input select option, there's a little triangle next to the R M & S columns at the top of the window to display it).

Spliting tracks is very useful for panning sounds in your stereo composition.

Correct. Not until I bought the USB Audiophile did I realize that you could Split signals (L, R, L+R). I had always messed with the audio setup before recording each track (Checking the input from stereo to mono to stereo back to mono....zzzzzzz).

I've grown to appreciate the functions and features that are in Metro 6, especially the last few revs.
The new assigning of Outputs has really made it easy to setup mixes. I never noticed it before but the Tempo and Master Volume on the Graphic Editor Track drop down has come in handly lately. Finally the automation on the different parameters/values of an effect has been a blast to mess with.
Yet I know that I haven't even begun to scratch the surface...

The new assigning of Outputs has really made it easy to setup mixes.

The big difference of note was between Metro 5 and Metro 6.
The modifying outputs is sort of an automatic thing now and the way it allocates them to say a DLS Device. I don't remember it being so easy in 5.......then again it was a while ago now.
