Metro SE not working with OS X..

Postby Acermove » Sat Oct 04, 2003 6:44 am

I bought an Aardvark USB3 recently which came with a CD of Metro SE.

I have an i-book which runs on OS X, but when I try and install Metro SE it uses Classic and eventually doesn't work by shutting down completely or the window just freezing.

What do I need to do? Is there an upgrade for Metro SE to use on OS X? Or do I have to buy a whole new program from scratch?

Itching to get going and start recording...any help would be great.

Any idea what version number of Metro SE?

I know that Metro (the full version) had version 4.5 and 5.0 on CD.
I don't know about SE, but I'm sure Jerm will tell you.

If you get the version number up before he comes online, he'll probably know what to do and give you the answer.

There are upgrade paths in the store for earlier versions to get the latest at a reduced price.......go and have a lookie.

It's, aah, Metro 5 SE.

The troubles arose when I was installing OMS 2.3.6; when the "Create a New Studio Setup" it seemed to fail.

I'm new to this and I don't even know if I need to install it. I think I do.

Hope you can help, Jerm.

Cheers...

Metro 5 SE requires OS 9. It will not work in OS X. Currently, under $60 will get you an upgrade.

If you had OS9 you would need OMS to run metro.
I think OMS 2.3.8 is the version with USB support for the USB type macs.

If you're in OSX only, you don't install OMS at all.
You just need a Metro 6 version and your drivers for any hardware attached......say a midi interface.

Oh. You have an Aardvark USB3. Does it have OSX drivers?

I have the USB3 connected to my i-book working as just a normal, external sound card. So I guess it has the correct OSX drivers already.

I'll try and get Metro 6 upgrade. From what you say, that means OMS is irrelevant. Sounds easier. Does Metro 6 just work on its own?

Anyway, I'll see how it goes with trying to get the upgrade. Apparently I need proof of purchase, but the CD I have came complimentary with the USB3.

Thanks for the help.

No serial number card at all with the CD?

The Metro 6 demos work for 25 minutes without the ability to save and you can do a 25 minute session multiple times.
It should give you an idea if it worth upgrading.

Metro 6 in OSX works without anything else.
Stock standard I think it's midi settings would be internal (quicktime instruments) and built in audio controller.....sound in and out of the mac.

audio midi setup a program found in the utilities folder of the applications folder takes care of the external devices.

I originally used it on Windows with Guitar Tracks 2 (until I got sick of fu..ing-Windows!).

So when I registered it with Cakewalk I used the serial number that came under "Cakewalk Guitar Tracks 2"; the Windows equivalent. There was no separate serial number for the Metro Se side of the accompanying CD.

I guess they didn't anticipate Sagan taking over Metro. Has that just been recent?

As far as the external USB3 goes, it was pretty straight forward to get working through the i-book.

I'm all ears for any other ideas...

And Metro users didn't expect Cakewalk to go totally PC!!!
Metro 6 was released (or I found out about it) round Jan/Feb.

I assume the program (earlier metro) was created by the author, published (or distributed) under a cakewalk brand for a certain number of years and then they decided to go PC and not renew the agreement.

You could tell something was up because for the past 3 years if you asked Cakewalk a question you'd never get a response.

I can see why metro took so long to get virtual instruments and other cool features (why give a company who's about to drop your product a new update with features that are similar to sonar etc.?) and I can also see how Sagan Tech got a hold of Metro too.

And at the end of the day it was probably the best thing that could happen.
The support here is infinitely better than cakewalks.....as they didn't have any to start with.

Now all we have to do is solve your problem.
