Remove Hiss from cassettes

Just purchased Metro 6 SE and still finding my way through the online help page, but is there a simple way to remove hiss for sound recorded in from old cassettes? I.E. define a region of hiss and then use that to remove hiss throughout. Searching the web I've found the steps to do this for other programs such as Cool Edit but can't find anything for Metro 6.

Also, I record from cassette (through sound in) and minidisc (through an optical to USB connection) that has many tracks on it. Guess I could record each of these tracks individually but obviously simpler if I record everything at once. Is there a simple way of markering the tracks (I know how to place markers) and splitting the session up into separate files?

Metro (and Metro SE) has no hiss removal algorithm. I know of plug-ins that will do that for OS 9.

As for OS X, although this is not the best way to remove hiss, you could try running the audio through an EQ.

Of course audio is audio, so if you run your audio through Cool-Edit's remove hiss you could always bring it into Metro SE afterwards.

As for bringing in multiple tracks of synced audio, the best way is to use a multi-port sound card and use Metro SE multi-track recording facility.

Barring this you could get two tracks in at a time by panning full left and right on your mixer. If you have 4 tracks then you will need to synchronize these tracks manually. If you had a test tone on the original you could easily align to that.

I would just like to add, that since my last post I have had a chance to take an initial look at Bias's Sound Soap and it seems to be a very nice product with a professional looking interface that works in Metro.

that comes with roxio toast package isn't bad for this . it has an "exciter" filter and a few other booster/filters which may be useful for countering any losses incurred by tape medium .
it also a semi intelligent attempt at finding the beginning and end of tracks which when it works (your mileage may vary) saves a lot of time used in locating track beginning and ends .
if you need toast anyway , one more reason to buy . works in os 9 or X .
