Metro 6.1 pre-release available soon

General announcements appear here.

Metro 6.1 pre-release available soon

Postby Jerm » Thu Sep 25, 2003 11:34 pm

This pre-release has been removed and will be replaced with 6.1.0.1 some time before the end of Monday 9-29. Users are urged to get the new update as soon as it is available as there is a potential serious data corruption problem with the OS X version of the 6.1 pre-release. Sorry for any inconvenience.

Download it here:
http://www.sagantech.biz/downloads/downloads.shtml

IMPORTANT: The official system requirements have changed. Metro 6.1 requires either OS 10.2 or later or OS 9.1 - OS 9.2.x! It is possible that Metro 6.1 will work with other OS's (such as 8.6, 9.0 & 10.1.5) but they are no longer supported.

IMPORTANT: Metro Documents written with this version will NOT be readable in any prior Metro/Metro SE version!

IMPORTANT: This is a pre-release, meaning it has some bug fixes (and possibly features) that were deemed important enough to be released before it could be rigorously tested.

Detailed changes in this version:

• Notation and Lyrics window in OS X.
• Notation printing in OS X.
• Notation enhancements, such as page numbers, date and time text.
• New standard saving and loading of Audio Unit presets (.aupreset files) thanks to Marc Poirier.
• New remote control events for Arming new audio track, jogging with any controller and jogging with a jog controller.
• Enhanced support for Absynth, Phatmatik Pro and other plug-ins.
• Automation problem with AudioUnits plug-ins has been addressed. Numbers typed into parameters are now automated.
• Automation displays in the graphic editor (audio units only) now reflect the exact range of the parameter shown rather than 0.0 to 1.0.
• Double-click in Notation to bring you to the same location in graphic editor (or list-editor if on in switches menu).
• Synthesizer plug-in editor windows now show unique names in the windows menu when multiple instances are in use. e.g. Absynth1, Absynth2, etc.
• Owners of site-licenses can now easily deploy Metro/Metro SE with the new Sasafrass KeyServer support.

• Enhanced support for Absynth

I don't know what you mean by enhanced but it sure opens faster! 8)

• Synthesizer plug-in editor windows now show unique names in the windows menu when multiple instances are in use. e.g. Absynth1, Absynth2, etc.

The aux bus doesn't display the numbers. I don't know if it's supposed to.

• Notation and Lyrics window in OS X.

Congrats on an OSX milestone!

Try logging out and then logging back in or rebooting.

Which version did you download?

You might try these:

1. Hold down the option Key as you start up. This will disable notation.
2. Make sure you have backups and then archive or remove your older versions.

Definitely let us know if either of these work.

i haven't upgraded in a few months (i'm still running 6.05), so i downloaded both the g4 6.1 beta and the g4 6.08.

i just tried deleting all old prefs (including the se and demo ones), holding down option while launching (which simply makes the open metro folder-window disappear), and restarting AND logging out, logging back in again. still nothing. neither the g4 6.08 nor the g4 6.1 beta work. i'm sure this has entirely all to do with some arcane setting on this particular machine as the previous version have all worked very well. although you can probably understand my trepidation on deleting the 6.05 install just yet... -k

G4 6.1 beta

I have a previously saved bundle of midi files that I have been unable to get to play in 6.1. Everything appears to be working correctly except there is no midi data streaming to the MTP II and JV-1080.

If I import a fresh midi file, that file will play.

Is there something I am missing or will I have to start over with that set of midi files I previously saved under another version.

I am not quite sure, but I think it was the last prerelease version.

- have you installed the notation font into the fonts folder? now required in X
- does it work under OS9 if you have it?
- do you have any external devices plugged in?

jerm

- is there a way to reset AMSetup so everything is back to standard?
this may help if there's a hiccup somewhere.
- any idea of the memory requirement to run 6.1 under X?
then again 6.08 isn't working for him either.
- out of interest - what happens if you run g4 metro on a g3?

I usually unstuff and just replace the old metro app with the new one in the metro folder and throw away all the extra downloaded bits.
Probably a little dangerous but it hasn't caused any pain yet.
Blind Faith.

No you should not have to start over. Verify that outputs are assigned the correct ports. If you change your MIDI setup document in any way the ports may not be correct. You can use change ports to change all ports or to assign new ports to outputs. Select the outputs in question by clicking on the name of the output in the Mixer window and shift (or command) click to select many, then select change ports from the setup menu.

I think it crashes. He is running on a G4 I think. Perhaps he should try the version he has not tried yet.

That should work fine (until something extra is added) until some unspecified time in the future.

He is running a G4 as it's a DP.

i put the aloisen font in both the library/fonts folder and the users/hrvatski/library/fonts folder. nothing.

restarted in os 9, got as far as the registration screen. i'll assume it works from there on (didn't have my info ready in os 9 to enter it all in). said registration screen does not come up when i attempt to launch it in os x. as previously mentioned, the activation lines burst from the app, then nothing. it doesn't hang, the icon doesn't bounce in the tool bar. it just doesn't launch. quite frustrating actually.

what do you mean by external devices? i have a firewire hd and cd burner on the same chain. plus an extra internal eide drive. and i've replaced the built-in dvd drive with a pioneer dvd burner...

One thing you could try would be to 'duplicate' the application in the finder and then try the copy. This somehow has some magic powers in OS X. Have you tried running the other version (G4 or non-G4 depending on which one is not working, try the other one) ?

If Jerm's idea doesn't work.......

If you were launching from the dock, try launching by double clicking the icon from the folder instead.

Firstly I would go into the applications folder, open up the utilities folder and launch Disk Utility.
Highlight the disk and go to first aid and Repair Disk Permissions.
This too has magic powers. :)
