metro demo wont launch in osx

version 6.0.8.2 in os 10.2.8

what gives? any clues. all ive done is unstuffed it and put it in my applications folder.

it just wont launch at all.

I have heard that 10.2.8 is not very reliable, so much so that Apple pulled the update from their site.

Anyway I just downloaded the Metro 6.0.8.2 demo, unstuffed it and it ran fine in OS 10.2.6.

You might try logging out and then logging back in or rebooting. The demo should then launch.

yeah im thinking it must be 10.2.8, but i think im in denial, cause i dont want to try and downgrade. was kinda hoping someone would step up and say it was working for them.

Do you have an older version of Metro already on your system? I'm running 10.2.3, and I don't know if they have fixed it in later versions, but in this version OSX has some definite problems with how it locates apps and associates file types with apps. When I downloaded my first upgrade to Metro 6 (after installing my originally purchased copy), I found that, when you double-click on a file to launch the associated app, for some reason OSX tends to want to find the oldest version on disk rather than the newest version. Trying to change the association in the file's Get Info box doesn't help much; as soon as you reboot, it reverts. Because I didn't want to delete the older version until I had had time to check the newer version out, I tried removing execute permission from the older version. No good -- OSX still insists on trying to use it. Since it doesn't have execute permission, it can't run, but you don't get an error either -- it just doesn't do anything. In order to force the newer version, you have to launch it explicitly. I solved the problem for the time being by putting the newer version in the Dock where I can drop files on it. I think it's screwy, though. I'm going to go poke around Apple's forums and see if there is anything about this.

nah, no older versions. its bound to just be something screwy with 10.2.8. its happened with a different app as well the other day. i guess ill just wait until apple fixes this wonderful update.
