assigning effects to aux busses

Postby Biffer » Thu Aug 28, 2003 8:59 am

Well I finally went ahead and upgraded to the full Metro (g4). Just couldn't take only having four tracks at a time.

My question/problem is as follows. I'm trying to put my effects/control onto a couple of aux faders but as soon as I assign 'aux 1' in the effects window my application 'quits unexpectantly'. I think I'm following the direction in the online help but then again...I must be doing something wrong.

Here is what I'm doing. I create two aux busses. Then I go to the effects window and assign it to one of the busses. Then I add the effect. Then I go to the mixer and go to 'Aux 1' and assign one of the controls there to 'pre'. But then, and I guess this is where something goes wrong, when I hit 'play' the effects window no longer says 'aux 1' but is assigned somewhere else. I correct it to Aux 1 and....metro quits.

Where am I going wrong?

Metro should never automatically quit, so it is nothing that you are doing wrong. What is the plug-in that you are assigning? A misbehaved plug-in could cause this or it could be a bug. What version of Metro are you using? And what OS?

Hi Jerm. The only plug in I tried was reverb. (I suppose I should try another to see) I'm using Metro G4 and system 10.2. The effects/plugins all worked fine when just used seperately for a track. The first and only time I have this problem is when I try to do it with an aux bus.

Jerm, I messed with it a little more and found that the problem only seems to happen with the reverb..both matrix reverbs. As soon as I try to run it with reverb the whole thing shuts down. Oh, and I'm on version 6.0.8.1.

Software Bug

Postby Jerm » Fri Aug 29, 2003 1:26 am

The problem is related to the fact that the reverb is saying it has 5 outputs. I don't know yet if the problem is in the reverb or in Metro (I suspect the reverb). The fix for now (in 6.0.8.2) is to not allow an odd number of outputs greater than 2. So now with Matrix Reverb plug, instead of 5 outputs you will see only 4.

This also means that the reverb will work fine in 6.0.8.x as a track insert.

Biffer,

Simply do not use the Apple Matrix reverb on an aux buss until you get 6.0.8.2. It is fine to use it on a track or to use a different reverb. I like the Wavearts Reverb.

The 6.0.8.2 pre-release should be out within a week.

Biffer,

It is not a free plug-in. It is available here:

http://www.wavearts.com/products.html

p.s. I now believe this problem (odd number of outputs > 1) is a Metro bug.
