sync meter with the bar

Postby françois » Sat Aug 23, 2003 2:45 am

I'm using an Ibook 800 with 640 Mo ram.

When I'm recording ( with amadeus ) from my analog mixer a live session, the meter of the transport window is not running well ( for example he goes directy from bar 1 to 4 )
is it a problem of memory allocation ?

When I use metro without another application running at the same time, there is no problem.

This is because Amadeus is using too much processor. Obviously it is very important for a music program to prioritize processor usage so the music is played at the correct rhythm. When processor resources get tight the first thing to suffer is the display.

Are you sure its display?
I think it's audio break ups with me.
Especially with soundfonts over revving the CPU. :)

Yes. First display and then audio.

http://www.rogueamoeba.com/
I can define the ram allocate in amadeus preferences, but under 256M0 it's difficult to record 3 hours of MP3 sessions.
could you tell me where I can find in OSX the ram allocation for each application ?

Do you know roguemoeba.com ? ( audio hijack )

There is no ram allocation in OSX like in OS9.

Programs can automatically take more memory as required.
Of course if you have too many memory hungry programs running then things slow down a little, if there isn't a lot of ram to start with.

I have seen this most notably on a friends G3 imac with 128MB running a app that recommends 256MB in OSX. If felt like it was freezing up the mac.

Some apps in OSX have allocation limits which can be set.
Photoshop says something like - use up to XX% of total ram on machine.
