Hi Scooterman:

I'm back from the North Sea Festival, a real zoo if you ever get a chance to check it out.

I did manage to download some gm soundfonts, one called reality(31.2mb) and another called unison(29mb). I installed them with no trouble per your lucid instructions. Thanks again! The reality sounds pretty good, espcially the piano stuff. However, I now see the limitations w my Metro SE being unable to use only 1 synth plug-in at a time, as well as the gm soundfonts in general. I'll probably go and upgrade to the Metro6 tonight or tomorrow.

Now that I will switch to Metro 6, I'm also interested in moving up to better quality sounds, hence, soft sample stuff: sampletank, reason, unity...
I recall hearing good things about the sampletank and metro 6 in the forum. Any other reasonably priced softsamples you all would recommend?

The link was on the metro links page. It may be down for good now due to overloading or not paying the bills. Maybe it's time to remove the link.
Where are you getting your soundfonts from now?

Sampletank free is a must for a start if you don't have it already.

Sampletank's interface is pretty user friendly and simple to get it sounding good. I had a Unity 2 or 2.1 and it's a mixture of a whole lot of little parts which makes you wonder if it was all just thrown together.
Infinite combinations and settings on the reverb and other effects.
You could fiddle for hours with it!
Would hope that unity session is a more refined product and one that is easier to operate.

Have no 'reason' experience.

The cheapest way to get into sampletank would be to buy a drum, bass or piano cd. Remember you are limiting your variety to the instrument you choose......or you could go and buy the full sets of L and XL etc.

Have fun in big mac metro 6.

I highly recommend Sampletank! With the exception of installation (under Metro) it is the easiest sample player to use and has the best sound library that I have seen thus far.

however, I could not find the link for the reality gm soundfonts, I'll look again.

I'll check out Sampletank too.

But again, there is no way to convert the QuickTime GM to audio without the use of dls devise? In the old Cakewalk with pc, I could simply convert the midi to audio track without any trouble. Also, whatever new sounds I get, I will have to essentially reproduce the piece with new sounds.

If you have mac in and outs you can connect them together to record quicktime instruments to audio.

HH - Just downloaded musica_theoria and unison and going back for the other later.

They are very much like the real font 2.1 so you're not missing anything by not having it.

How is the tenor sax? 'realfont' has an awesome velocity switched Tenor Sax.
