docs crashing

Postby rickchaff » Fri Jul 04, 2003 10:15 am

I have Metro 5 and 6 installed on the same machine and if I try to open either doc, 5 or 6 by double clicking, Metro Crashes.

I can open docs from within the program as long as it was created on the same version of metro that I'm using... if not ... CRASH!

I'm on OS 8.6 G3.

Do I need to uninstall 5 to bring them into 6 or is it an OS problem?

Thanks !

This is very hard to diagnose with many versions of Metro on your computer. It would be much more informative to know which version of Metro got launched with which document (and also have a copy of the document).

I can open 6.0 docs within metro 6.0

I can open 5.0 docs within metro 5.0

I can't open either by double clicking.

Rick,

Are you using Metro 6.0? I would recommend 6.0.8. I do not get the same results. It seems to work fine for me.

Does double clicking work if the application is already open?

6.04 5.0

If I double click a 5.0 doc and 5.0 is running it will open.

If I double click and 6.0.4 doc and I'm rinning 6.0.4 it will open.

If I'm running 6.0.4 and I try to open a 5.0 doc into 6.0.4 It crashes.

I get an error -39 if I'm not running metro and I double click any metro doc.

I can't open a 5.0 doc into 6.0.4

Can you open by drag and drop onto the correct icon?

I have 5.0 on my OS9 side along with 6.0.8 and have no problem.....but I have no 5.0 created docs.......it is used for email walk thrus with other users.

>I can't open a 5.0 doc into 6.0.4

No but you could export out the midi......bring it into 6.0.4 and then bring in your audio tracks. There's too many cool things missing in 5 for me to want to work in 5 when I know I can have 6. :)

If it takes a while think of it as getting rid of Metro 5 altogether as everything would then be in 6!

Once you go to 6.0.8 and start working in it, you can't go back to 6.0.4. Something got changed. Read - http://sagantech.com/metroforum/viewtopic.php?t=160 It's no big deal.

Another thought.......can they be saved as a portable bundle in 5 and brought into 6 that way?

Hi Scooter

Thanks for your suggestions.

Yes, I've Done some exporting and importing to get some 5 work into 6. I'll try dropping on the icon.

No, I can't open a 5 bundle with 6. I tried... it starts the process and crashes somewhere along the way.

I like your suggestion of just bringing everything into 6 by exporting and importing. Eventually that will happen.

I guess as long as I know how to make it things work I shouldn't worry about it and just keep working.

I do enjoy working with Metro!

I wonder if it is a preference setting that is conflicting?

Anyway ,

Thanks

Rick,

I would suggest trying Metro 6.0.8. A lot has changed since 6.0.4.

You should definitely be able to open bundle files created with Metro 5 into Metro 6. If not, I would like you to email me a Metro 5 bundle file that will not open (if this is possible please make the .bndl file as small as possible while still failing).

The biggest pain from the exporting/importing would be you may have to re-do your fader settings (automation) on the audio side again.

Thanks Scooter and Jeremy

I'll email Jeremy a Bundle this afternoon. It would be interesting to see where this problem comes from.

Remember I'm running OS 8.6 and the same OMS setup for Both Metro versions.

Thanks again.

Works fine in OS X and 6.0.8

Postby Jerm » Sat Jul 05, 2003 7:53 pm

It opens fine for me in Metro 6.0.8 under OS X. I notice it has the Cakewalk reverb on it and I think that was causing problems in 6.0.4 so again, I recommend trying to load your bundle files with Metro 6.0.8. I will also try to load the bundle file under OS 9 to see if that may be the problem.

I did notice a -39 error when double clicking the bundle file in OS 9. This error is an end of file error. I think the OS is not talking about the file but rather the application that is reaching end of file (since the app never loads). So OS 9 is a bit confused about which application to launch if you have many Metro's on your hard drive. I would recommend archiving all Metro apps that you are not using and then rebuild your desktop file.

However, the bundle file also opens fine in OS 9 when using Metro 6.0.8. The only problem I saw was that the aux buss seems to routed to off instead of outputting straight through to aux 1. This is just a matter of going to the aux buss in the effects window and clicking the popup in the title bar to route the plug-in correctly. (This is fixed in 6.0.8.1)

The reason for the crash you are seeing could be because of errant plug-ins that you may have installed, since Metro 6 may need to instatiate all the plug-ins in your plug-ins folder the first time it loads the bundle file. Pay close attention to what the progress window is telling you in regard to which plug-in is loading. Then if a particular plug-in is causing a problem you can remove it from your Metro plug-ins folder.

Since I was able to open the bundle file in question this probably does not apply but for other bundle files it might:
