1) RECORD TRACK (TRACK 1), THEN TWO MORE (TRACK 2 and TRACK 3).
2) MIX 3 TRACKS TO ONE TRACK: (TRACK 5)
3) KEEP 1 (ORIGINAL) AND 5 (MIXTURE of 1, 2, 3) BECAUSE THE SOUND IS RICHER, AND ERASE 2, 3
4)) SELECT ORIGINAL TRACK 1 AND MIXED TRACK AND FADE OUT
4) EXPORT TO AIFF (on Mac confronted initially only with 16/41 option for quality, but soon a dialogue box allows me to choose the same rate 24/88.2
PROBLEM ONE---> MIDI IS NOT SAVED!!!!
PROBLEM TWO- even where audio is concerned, I find what i am doing more simple than what i wrote above
The only descriptions I can find seem more complicated. In a back note in feature requests, it looks similar, but still not as simple as above:
I should note that the way I work is the following. When the song is completed I first save it. Then I mixdown using the 'to track' method of mixing. This creates the track on the hard disk but it is marked as 'deleteable' so that it does not take up space on your hard disk as long as you do not save the Metro document. I then fade out the ending or apply some kind of finalization processing on the finished stereo audio file created by the aforementioned mix. Then I use the 'export track' command to write the final output to the correct place and in the correct audio format that I want.
Finally, I use the 'new' command in Metro and do not save. This releases all plug-ins and deletes all files in the current project that have never been saved or placed on the clipboard. In the above scenario, the 'Mix' file will be deleted but the exported file will remain.
THE FAQ seems more outdated....referring to external equipment
To mix down several tracks to create a CD and/or MP3 you need to:
1. Connect the output from your MIDI devices and computer audio output to a mixer.
2. Connect the mixer to the input of your computer.
3. In Metro, record-enable an audio track.
4. Select the correct stereo audio input from the Audio Input Select column of the tracks window.
5. Click Return and then Record in the transport window.
6. When the recording is done press stop.
7. Export the track to some place on your hard drive where you will be able to find it later. This will write an AIFF file. [/quote]
So is not my way above the easiest?
Or am I missing something?
AND THE BIG QUESTION IS, JUST WANT A SIMPLE WAY TO MAKE ALL MIDI AND AUDIO TRACKS AN AIFF FILE.
Oh, by the way, in exporting, there is a RENDER SETTINGS disalogue. What does this do (I chose best).
