audio outputs from multitimbrals...

Postby kelldammit » Fri Jun 30, 2006 6:00 pm

multi-outputs from multitimbral vi's routable directly to inputs of mono or stereo audio channels. pretty please!
an example of where this would be very useful:
drumkit from hell superior:
mono output 1: kick
mono output 2: snare top
mono output 3: snare bottom
mono output 4: hihat
mono outputs 5-9: tom outputs
output 10: <not used>
stereo output 11/12: overhead mics
stereo output 13/14: ambient mics

that's the default config (or something very similar) for this plug, and it would be nice to be able to "premix" while editing/programming. the current aux procedure for metro places the kick in aux 1L, snare top aux 1R, etc...it would work great for battery2 individual outs as well (you can specify numbers of mono/stereo output busses for drums or groups of drums).

we'd discussed this a while back in another thread...so i wanted to make it an official request :)
'sides, it'd free up those auxes for more fun stuff!

This is a very nice suggestion and as soon as I figure out the best way to do it, it will be implemented.

the above request is something that i consider pretty much a necessity (at very least it would seriously help for most projects), but even assuming it doesn't happen, i'm sooo buying the full version anyway :)

thanks for your attention, and happy 4th! (please tell me you're taking the day off??)

This is implemented in 6.3.6 which will be the next release.

The outputs are configurable as a multi-out in the efx window. If you select multi, Metro will show all the outputs and defaults to stereo outs. You, the user, can then select which outputs are mono and which are stereo. In a later version it may be possible to detect this information from certain AU plug-ins automatically but we are not doing that yet. Each bus (be it mono or stereo) can then be routed to a mixer output allowing panning, volume control and further routing through aux busses.

This enhancement required many changes to Metro internals and also a database update so files written after 6.3.6 will not be compatible with earlier versions of Metro.

Also, currently, there are some limitations on automating the output busses created via this method.
