No synth preset names in Event Editor

Postby Jazzdude » Sun May 02, 2004 6:20 pm

I'm using the 6.2 pre-release and have loaded a synth (Scorpion 4) on a track. In the graphic editor, I can choose the Synth presets by selecting one from the list of preset names in the program # popup, but when I use the event editor, these names do not appear. I see only numbers. I want to permanently assign a specific program to the track, but have no names associated with patch numbers. How do I do this?

Well, it is possible. Please note that the presets are normally selectable in the graphic editor but these are NOT corresponding to MIDI program numbers or banks. You can go to the effects window and click on the MIDI cable icon and then select 'Map presets to programs'. This will create a link between the current preset list and MIDI program change.

The BIG problem here is that these presets can change very easily, say if you yourself add one, and then the mappings will be messed up. So for now all I can say is proceed with caution. The use of this for now is basically to preview synth sounds with a MIDI keyboard using program change events.

In the future we may be able to be smarter about how banks and program changes are mapped but it is rather complicated especially given the fact that a user can then send your document to someone else who has completely different presets.
