Virtual Guitarist/Electric Edition

Postby Paul » Tue May 13, 2003 3:06 am

Has anyone succeeded in getting Metro 6 to work with Virtual Guitarist (the original version or the Electric Edition) on Mac OSX?

I have put an alias of the original VG/EE samples folder into the Mac OS folder using the Show Package Contents command but to no avail. The plugin is receiving midi (its indicator lights up when I hit the play button) but it just cannot find its samples after I select one of the presets.

That's a problem...

Paul,

I do not have the plug-in (yet) so I do not know. I did however find these link that may or may not be helpful:

VG/EE (and PPG Wave)

Postby Paul » Wed May 14, 2003 3:56 am

Jeremy,

I have read the article on the VG site but I still can't get VG to work. In the article it says that I should select a patch at the bottom of the edit window. In Metro I don't have that possibility. I can only choose patches from the Effects window drop down menu. I know that in Logic Audio all plugins are shown within a Logic window (if you know what I mean) which gives me the opportunity to load (and save) patches/banks.

So, the article raises another question: how can I load a bank for a plugin within Metro 6? I also have the PPG Wave plugin and all I can choose from are the patches that the dropdown menu in the Effects window shows. I don't know how to load different banks.

Once the plug-in has been dragged to the effects window, can you see a little button named 'Edit'?

This is usually clicked on and the interface window of the plugin is usually displayed.

For example.....if you were to drag across the plugin named AUGraphicEQ, it looks rather unexciting till you click Edit and you see the 31 bands of EQ available that can be adjusted and saved as presets for later use.

The edit button should reveal the standard interface the plugin should have. I can't prove this as I don't have either plug you're talking about and the PPG demo plugin (I assume its a blue looking synth? is that the one?) runs under OS9.

Scooterman...

You're right about the Edit button; it does show the standard plugin window. However, this is not what I mean. I know that in Logic Audio (as I guess in other programs) there is the possibility to load entire banks, rather than single presets. I believe this option is given by the host program and not the plugin itself. This is done by a sort of 'Load Bank' command. I can't find this command in Metro.

The PPG Wave 2.V is indeed the blue synth! Very cool sounds of the 80's man... 8)

Unlike Logic, Metro presents the choice of presets in the effect window. As for banks, I am unaware of any option in VST for banks other than placing the bank files in a place where Metro can find them, e.g, the VST folder. Once there Metro will parse the presets out of the bank.

If you wonder where to store a set of presets just create a preset by saving off an effect setting with a unique name and see where it puts it on your hard drive.

Metro has no problem finding previous saved presets so I wouldn't expect it to have trouble finding a set of them as long as their format is correct.

(I use the word set instead of bank becasue I think of bank as a range of instruments).
