Where are those .sf2 files supposed to be stored ?

Should they be stored in one of those OS Panther/Jaguar ~Library/Audio/ folders ?

If so which folder ?

{I use both cats ( on different drives of course ).}

It doesn't matter where you stick soundfonts on your drive. Wherever it is easy to locate them is fine........desktop? metro folder?

You grab the DLSMusicDevice from the plugins window and when installed you view it in the effects window and click on the 'none' button to load a soundfont into it. Use the open dialog box to locate the soundfont you want to use.

Allocate outputs to the DLSMusicDevice from the setup menu and then change your midi tracks from internal to DLS to hear the difference.

This is not necessarily so. If you want to use soundfonts as the default bank for the internal port (i.e. QuickTime Musical Instruments) then they should be placed in library/audio/sounds/banks

Just curious here, in setting up to use soundfonts in METRO as you have explained is there any reason for me to buy this SoundFont Synth from this guy

Your link is to enable soundfonts to be used with apps that wouldn't normally allow it.

If you use garageband, I'm sure it is very handy.

Well that clears that up for me Scoot.

I wonder if it would work with Band-in-a-Box OS X or do you have any thoughts / ideas on how to use SoundFonts with Band in a Box?

At the moment I use Apple'sQT rather then my keyboards sound generators.

Do you have band in a box?
If not why don't you just use them in metro?
Why do you need another app is what I am asking.

Using soundfonts over QT is way way better.
You can add plugin effects to soundfonts which you can't do in QT.
Some soundfonts out there could be better than your keyboards and you could then just use the keyboard as a means of getting midi input.

You guys have got me interested.

How do you use Band in a Box in or with Metro ?

I use Band12/OS X to create a midi file.

Then import that midi file into METRO.

Then create audio tracks for some of the midi tracks and add fx to those or just some of those audio tracks. To my ears the audio versions "sounds" better and also the fx'ing allows more tweeking: such as reverbs/eq/panning and all that kind of tweeking.

Can I somehow use OS X midi core IAC to link these two programs, Band12 and MetroSE6? Is that what you are talking about Scoot?

If yes, then how?

As an aside, Metro, sound fonts and the soundfont players ( Crystal and SampleTank2 free version ) and I are still struggeling. I'll have to document my problems and do a separate post. Thanks for guroos such as yourself to give us help.

Really I was talking about soundfonts in metro......not band in a box in metro. I was asking why do you need band in a box in soundfonts are working ok in metro?

I don't think soundfonts work in sampletank.......but I could be wrong.
Sampletank has its own format. Each instrument has 3 seperate files which make it up.

Soundfonts work in Crystal, plus you can really do some really cool sound editing.
