Converting midi tracks to audio...

Postby murphy » Thu Sep 30, 2004 7:33 pm

I need to convert each midi track of a midi file into seperate audio files ( .aiff ).

For example, a midi file with 4 midi tracks converted to 4 individual audio files.

How do I do that in MetroSE :?:

Or, is there an OS X application that can batch process midi to audio into seperate audio files :?:

This can either be really simple or somewhat detailed depending on what device is producing the MIDI.

If it is a softsynth you may be able to simply use the render command in Mix/Render audio tracks.

Other options would be:
• If it is a soft-synth, soloing each track and then Mixing audio. This will take n (the number of MIDI tracks) passes to complete.

• writing each track as a MIDI file and importing them as an Audio file. This forces Quicktime to use it's not so great sounding samples so I wouldn't recommend it.

• Connecting an external MIDI device's output to your computer's audio in and then record audio tracks by first soloing each MIDI track in turn. This will take n (the number of MIDI tracks) passes to complete. I suppose if you have multiple in's and multiple MIDI devices you could do it in fewer passes.

.

I use Band in a Box 12, OS X version . Then within BB12 I convert my song projects to midi and import the midi files into METRO LX.

Then within METRO LX I want to convert some of those midi tracks to audio so that I can apply some fx to those audio tracks.

How do conert those midi tracks created with BB12 to audio tracks within METRO LX?

The answer is the same as before. It will depend on which General MIDI (GM) module you want to use. If you want the sound that BIAB uses then it is probably the quicktime synth. The easiest way to convert them and the way I would do it would be to place the DLS music device plug-in on an aux buss and then assign all of the BIAB tracks to individual outputs for each MIDI channel. This can easily be accomplished automatically (I think) by instantiating the plugin and then select 'edit:original' form the outputs column of the track editor. Then select 'DLS', then import the MIDI file, select all of the tracks you want to render and then render via the MIX/Render audio tracks.

Mix/Render audio track

Postby fastlanephil » Wed Jan 05, 2005 1:50 am

I don't see "Mix/Render Audio Track" in any of the menus or in the manual. Do I need to set up an audio track or do something else to see this feature. I have 16 ST2 and 1 GPO instruments to record to audio from a 9 subsectioned piece. Is this correct that you can convert the ST2 midi tracks to audio tracks without having to loop each one at a time.

Also the mixer solo button shuts off ALL the instruments instead of leaving the one that is suppose to solo on. When I click the solo button again all the instruments are at full volume. The mixer initially comes up with all the instruments and the main volume at 127 before I click the solo button and then clicking the solo on and off sets the volume to these numbers, changing them from what the volumes originally were and they are also all changed to 127 in ST2.

Yes it is in the file menu. To mix to audio you will need to select the tracks and amount time that you want to mix first. To do what you want follow these steps:
• Save a backup copy
• expand all subsections
• select all
• mix / render audio tracks.

It is best to use the track solo button to solo with ST2. To use the mixer solo button you must first set all of the ST2 track faders to the appropriate setting.
