Something special with channel 2 ...

working in event editor i have some oddities (Metro SE):
- insert "Bank Select" does nothing
- insert "General Midi" generates

Ctrl 2 0 0
Ctrl 2 32 0

i.e. always channel 2, ignoring the channel assigned to the track.
Same happens if i select GM in track or graphics window.

BTW, on playing a midi file there is sometimes constant activity
in LED meter of channel 2 although not assigned to any track.

Fred,

In general when inserting bank selection from the event editor the data actually inserted is obtained from the definitions of bank select defined in the program names dialog.

Normally the fact that it inserts on channel 2 should not be a problem. You are using instruments (not ports) right?

If you want us to have a look at the problematic MIDI file, feel free to email it to support@sagantech.biz

Yes, i use instruments corresponding to the channels of my sound module. Sure, insert of channel 2 normally is no problem, since at playback or export the track assigned channel is used anyway. But i was just wondering why the event editor uses for all inserted events the track assigned channel - except for GM event. Theoretically at least this may cause some problem, perhaps related to the unexpected activity of the LED meter on channel 2. I will try to isolate that effect and send the file.

Well, now i found what confused me with the level meters: I have a midi file with notes starting at bar 5, stop playback somewhere in the middle (while some note is on), go back to start (return), start playback. Now during the first 4 bars the level meter shows activity. i.e. the value from the stopping point before. Makes sense technically, because no note off has been sended, but from the users view it might be better to reset the level meters on return. Perhaps this can be set somewhere in the preferences?

Which level meters are you referring to? I presume the tracks window and not the instruments window.

No, instruments window (tracks window level meters are ok).

Actually it sounds like a bug. I will look into this.

This does not happen for me. Can you send me the MIDI file? What version of Metro are you using?

Please try this:
- make a track with 2 bars
- bar 1 empty
- bar 2 whole note
- play back and watch instruments level meter
- meter goes on at bar 2
- stop in the middle of bar 2
- press return
- play back again
- meter goes on immediately at bar 1 !?

This behavior is deterministic and repeatable, at least on Metro SE 6.0.4 which i still use. Installation of prerelease 6.0.5xx didnt work properly, so i prefer waiting for the next official release and some notes how to install.

VU problem is fixed in 6.05i4. Thanks.

I am not sure why you would have problems with installation of 6.05SE. After you download and unstuff it, you should be able to take the application from the new Metro folder and drag it to your older Metro folder (6.04) and have it replace 6.04.

Yes, that's the standard update procedure. Don't know why, but i had replaced the *entire* Metro folder. Thanks.
