How can I use a soundfont?

Postby sseaton » Mon Feb 24, 2003 2:14 pm

I want to try a soundfont with the demo. How do I get Metro to recognize soundfonts? Thanks.

You need to use the DLS output synthetizer; you then can select it as a MIDI device.
The DLS plugin allows you to choose the soundfont it will use to play. It selects by default the SoundFont present in your ~/Library/Audio/Sounds/Banks.

More info on using a soundfont can be found on the effects help page at:

Thanks. I was able to use the soundfonts, although I don't understand how to use them with the Aux Busses. Does this have advantages over just puting them into the Library/Sound/Audio/Banks directory?

I am not sure what you are asking.

The purpose of using the DLS/Soundfont plugin with Aux busses is so that you can have the effect global to all sections and not tied to any particular track. If you put the plugin on a track then muting/soloing and other operations may be unpredicatable. Also, on an aux buss, Metro will allow you to route all the outputs of the plugin. On a track you are limited to a single stereo out.

I believe the sound directory is unrelated.
