OS X 10.2.8, Metro 6.08 G4, G4 733, 512 Mb, M-audio Audiphile 24/96 w/ latest M-Audio drivers.
I'm using a midi controller as input to Metro. Metro has both Software in and MIDI thru on (otherwise I can't hear what I'm playing). What happens is that I will be able to play for a while even though the notes don't always come through "on time" (and this happens only when I'm recording BTW). And then out of the blue, nothing but a loud, constant buzz comes out. Nothing stops the buzz except quitting Metro and the sound promptly stops.

MIDI causes buzzing?

Have you created a loop of sound somewhere in your system?
That's the only thing I can think of apart from a bad cable causing the fault.
One of the tracks being recorded or monitored may be building up a feedback loop if you have an input going to an output and back to an input again.
First thing to do is simplify the system by disconnecting everything and adding one thing at a time......this will tell you when it is occuring.
Add an input record, add a second input record again.....sooner or later the sound will come back.
I have never had such an experience with software in and midi thru on, but I used to get a similar thing on an old fostex 4 track switching between recording tracks and playback monitoring. With the levels high it used to create a rapid booming horn tone and all the meters would max out.
All to do with accidently changing into an audio/feedback loop.
Makes you reach for the faders fast!
