Real-time transpose on MIDI Thru

Postby epavelin » Wed Jul 16, 2003 3:31 pm

Is there any way to transpose notes in real time as they are played into Metro? I am trying to record bass lines, but the lowest octave of my keyboard doesn't go low enough. I have tried the "transpose" feature in the Tracks window, and this works for playback- however, it doesn't transpose the notes sent back to the keyboard via midi thru, so what I hear when I'm playing is an octave too high.

I seem to remember when I used to use Cakewalk on a PC that the transpose function modified the midi thru data in real time- which I found very useful!

Cheers,
Ed.

Ed,

Metro does not transpose in MIDI thru (although perhaps it should). Almost all keyboard have a transpose or master transpose that should work for your purposes though.

Hi Jerm,
thanks a lot for the quick reply!
I've tried the master transpose on my keyboard (Casio CTK601), but unfortunately it doesn't appear to transpose the MIDI output, only the local sounds.

Can I suggest an option for "transpose on MIDI thru" for a future version? Perhaps a checkbox in the preferences panel, just below "Send PGM change in MIDI thru"?

Cheers,
Ed.
