Help me get started with MIDI recording

Postby MichaelCrawford » Thu Feb 07, 2008 1:34 am

Hi, I'm a new user.

When I try to record, I get no sound when pressing keys, and I also don't see any graphical indication that Metro SE has detected my keypresses.

I'm using an M-Audio ProKeys 88sx. It has a USB port for MIDI, so I'm running a USB cable directly to my MacBook Pro without using a separate MIDI adapter.

When I use the Test function in Audio MIDI Setup, I can hear it beeping when I press keys.

I'm presently trying to get Metro SE to make the sound - I should be able to do both that as well as have Metro SE send MIDI notes back to my keyboard, right?

I've gone through the Quick Setup in the Getting Started manual.

I'm not real sure how to troubleshoot this. Thanks for any help you can give me!

It's working now. I'm not sure what I did to fix it. I did plug the keyboard into my amp - previously I had no sound output directly from the keyboard.

I'm able to record MIDI, and when I play it back from Metro SE, it sounds on my keyboard.

Hello Michael,

In the switches menu, you may need to turn on automatic MIDI thru. With this on, MIDI thru will follow the output port of any record enabled track. In other words, data will be send through from your MIDI keyboard to the record enabled tracks MIDI output port and MIDI channel.
