Sounds Sustaining (sticking) after recording or playback

I'm having trouble with my midi project sounds sustaining after I stop either playback or recording. The only way I've been able to cut it off is by closing my Metro SE 6.07 program. What could be the cause? I'm using an Evolution midi controller and the internal default sounds on my Imac G4 w/ 1ghz processor.

I too have an Evolution controller which, by the way, is a very nice light weight controller without any need for power so it is a perfect companion for my powerbook.

I am not sure why the internal sounds are not shutting off. It may have to do with the Quicktime version. If you do get stuck notes you should definitely be able to shut them off with the 'all notes off' command (options menu -> MIDI messages).

I would strongly recommend using the DLS:Soundfont synth if you are using OS X instead of the internal sounds anyway because the internal sounds do not sound good. Search this forum for 'soundfont' for more info.

Another excellent option is to purchase SampleTank. This plug-in has an awesome sound library and I have experienced no problems (other than authorization) with it and Metro 6.0.7 or later.

I have personally not experienced any hanging notes in Metro 6.0.x but I do not use internal (Quicktime) sounds.

If it happens every time on playback , please email me the MIDI file.

I have had sticking notes on my external synth....

Usually when playing a midi file made by someone else, which may have mixed up controller settings or something.

I usually turn the synth off and back on.

In your case...........if the notes are sticking on stop, do they turn off again on play? Does a midi reset fix it?

If you are using sustain data make sure the midi track has sustain off somwhere at the end of the track by vewing the controller data in the edit window.

Metro automatically sends sustain off messages to all channels upon stop. However, I have seen cases where a looped track leaves the sustain pedal down on subsequent loop iterations. This can have a devastating impact on polyphony and, if using a soft-synth, CPU.
