Automation Problem

Postby sseaton » Tue Apr 22, 2003 9:06 am

I am working on a MIDI project that uses only the DLS/SoundFont plugin. I put the plugin on AUX 1 and everything seems to be working great.

The problem I am having now is with automation. I can't record fader or pan movements, and I have selected "record" for recording the movements and "play" for trying to play back the movenents. Unfortunately, I don't get any movement! I read through the online manual on automation, but I think I'm doing what it says.

Is there a switch that could have disabled recording this data? Is it not possible in Metro SE 6.0.5? Other than this little problem I have been very happy with Metro. Thanks in advance for any advice.

This may help I'm not sure.

Under the setup menu there is an option for "Record Criteria" at the top.

I think "controllers" may have something to do with it.
I have everything on and the fader movements work for me. :)

I tested it with an audio track with an effect on the Aux bus.
The aux bus was registering fader movements.
Hope it works for you as I don't do sound fonts.

Thanks for the tip, Scooterman, but it didn't work. I had everything checked already. I'm starting to think that it has something to do with my installation or with using Metro SE on my iBook. It could also be that I'm overlooking the obvious. I'm open for any advice.

Sean, before you throw out your computer, make sure Scooterman is running SE. I have a sneaky suspicion he may not be.

Thanks for the advice, Jerm! ;) I bet you are right. Scooterman... are you running SE or the full version?

I posted this before testing the full demo and the SE demo, and I discovered a possible problem with automation of volume and pan in SE. I will continue this thread in the Bug Reports forum. In fact, maybe this post needs to be moved.

Thanks for your responses!

Yes. This is a bug. It is fixed in 6.0.7 which will be released within the next week or so, perhaps even as early as tomorrow.

Note that in the full version of Metro not only is volume, pan, send vol and send pan automatable but also all effects parameters, wet, dry faders and bypass.

Sorry yes full Metro.
I wouldn't have thought they would run differently in such a way but obviously they did.

I do try and keep my aux bus speeches down to 2 busses so as not to make SE users wonder where the others are.

Sorry Sean.

Sounds like Jerm is onto it though.
(or is it a ploy to get you to buy the full version? :D )

Thanks for the reply, Scooterman. Yes, Jerm is onto it. In fact, he has a pre-release version of SE 6.0.7 ready to go! Now that's fast! :)

That's funny. I didn't even notice a new message in announcements.
I wonder if that's why the server was down for a few hours earlier. :D

Boy there's a few changes!

I've had a few good crashes lately but I think I can blame them on Sampletank X :P
