Adjusting tempo to fit live recording?

Postby Stephanie » Thu Dec 23, 2004 4:19 pm

Hi All:

I have a MIDI file that was recorded live but without any tempo change info in it beyond the initial setting. For rehearsal and printing reasons, I need to get bar markers into it that actually line up with the correct notes, but with the tempo adjusted dynamically so that the actual playback is faithful to the original.

I know there are products out there (Logic, for one) that can do this. My question is, will Metro?

Thanks for any help, and all the best for whatever this season makes special for you!

Stephanie,

Metro has a feature that is designed exactly for this purpose. Simply drag the bar lines to the appropriate place and the tempo is adjusted so that MIDI is aligned to the beat.

Here's where it is (under the red dot)
Select this tool then move the bar line in the piano roll.

You will see everything else move/jump which may initially appear strange. When you hit play and this part comes up you will see the tempo change to the new one in the transport window.
