Delay using Demo version?

Postby Tenebrous » Mon Oct 13, 2003 7:53 pm

Hey everyone...

I'm using the Metro demo version on the following setup:
G4 733, 512 Mb RAM, Delta Audiophile soundcard, Fatar SL-161 MIDI controller.

I notice that there are random delays between the time I press a key on the MIDI controller and it actually gets recorded and sounds in Metro. I don't have this problem when playing the controller without recording, and I have only the Finder running.

I've turned off both controllers and the sustain on the controller, but that doesn't help. So far, I'm impressed by Metro, but I don't want to use it if I can't get MIDI data in reliably.

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

That is bizarre. What OS?

Completely random or the same long delay?

Could it be buffer allocations in the prefs or long times for audio to midi alignments under digital audio?

Tenebrous did say when recording.

delays part 2

I'm using OS X.2, latest update. I'll check out what y'all mentioned to see if that fixes it.

If you are using quicktime for internal sounds, don't. If you need internal sounds use the DLS plugin.

My comment was more of a steering comment for Jerm, because if you haven't touched the mentioned items, or have no idea what I'm talking about, it wouldn't be the cause of the problems.

Only in that they do not respond to certain MIDI messages correctly. This is the first I have heard of a delay in recording only though.

Oh ok

Yeah, I haven't touched the buffer allocations and I haven't fooled with anything under digital audio. I just got back to messing with this after a while and the problem still remains. I did manage to grab a sample so y'all can hear what it sounds like -- bear in mind that I was playing on the MIDI controller at a constant tempo, and this is what came out:

Delay (Latency) when recording continued...

Postby Tenebrous » Sat Dec 06, 2003 9:21 am

Downloaded latest version of Metro, and the problem still occurs. It happens only when recording, regardless of whether I have software in on or off, and regardless of whether automatic midi through is on or off. Anyone have any ideas on what I should monkey with?

Arghhh...

There is a new check box in timing preferences labeled 'honor core midi time stamps'. Check that, press ok and then see if there is any difference.
