trouble hearing audio during mtc sync playback

Postby chad » Mon Apr 25, 2005 11:01 pm

i have a metro project with midi, audio, and an au plugin. when i play the file back during normal playback, i can hear every track (including audio). when i use an external mtc device to supply clock, i cannot hear the audio track although i can see the signal in metro's mixer. i can hear the midi and plugin just fine. does anyone know what i'm doing wrong????

thanks.

Metro will not sync audio the external MTC. Although it may trigger audio, I cannot remember.

trouble hearing audio during mtc sync playback

funny thing is, if i render the midi track to audio (aif) and play back using motu clockworks (external mtc), that audio track will play back, but the audio track i recorded in metro will not. plus my plugin (battery 2) will play back just fine too.

anyway, just hoping i was doing some obvious thing wrong. thanks for your reply.

I am not quite clear on what you are saying. Are you in MTC mode in Metro? The audio track should play back as long as it is assigned to an audio output.

yes i am in mtc sync mode. the audio track was recorded on a friend's comuter using metro. he exported the track, and i imported it.

when i push play from the metro playback controls (not using clockworks but still in mtc sync mode), the audio track is fine. when i push play from clockworks, all other tracks play...even another audio track.

the bad audio track was using built-in-audio 2. i even switched it to built-in-audio 1, and i put the good audio track to 2. the results were the same - the imported aif track didn't play back. it has to be related to an audio output assignment, but i just don't know what. i'll keep trying!

thanks so much.

Why do you need external MTC? there is probably another way. What are you trying to do exactly?

i'm using an external mtc, because i have an external hd recorder and metro which need to in sync. i originally tried setting metro as the master using clock sync, but it won't work with audio plugins (and possibly audio tracks all together). having clockworks supply the mtc to both my hd recorder and metro is the only way i know how to keep both devices in sync. i'm sure there is a better way. i just don't know it.

also, i set up the same scenario using my friend's metro w/ external mtc and his track played fine!!!!! that definitely points to some configuration error i have. i've compared the two. i haven't found any clues yet.

thanks so much man. metro is an awesome product that makes my life much better.

chad,

What version of Metro are you using? Try changing the Metronome port in the metronome dialog to something other than 'Metronome'.

Why not simply record all of the HD Recorder tracks into Metro? I would think it would be easier to edit that way anyway.

Even if you get the devices to sync it will only be trigger sync. This means that they may drift over time.
