No Record in 6.22

Postby jukehouse » Sun Jan 23, 2005 10:27 am

AAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHH

A completely unanticipated problem in 6.22

I get a level to the Level indicator in the tracks window until I hit record. The level goes away and the audio does not record.

I tried this on both a previously recorded song (i.e. add a harp track) and on a new document.

No cigar

I opened 6.1 and recorded without problem so it is clearly not an input device problem. I'm sure its something simple that I'm overlooking but for the life of me ..................

What is the audio device you are using?

Did you try selecting a new track and setting your record input select properly?

Does the Record light up or does it stop immediately?

I am using a MOTU 2408 with the PCI 324

A new track is selected with the Record input select correctly assigned ( I get a level on the track until I hit Record)

The Record lights up and the track runs but no level shows up for the Record-enabled track after I hit Record and nothing gets recorded.

Again: I opened 6.1 and recorded without problem.

I do not know what would be causing this or what is different about recording in 6.2. The only thing I can think of is the new Metronome. You could try setting the Metronome to a MIDI device by opening the door in the transport.

Here's something else I just noticed.

After I attempt to record (proper Input Select, Record enabled track) and hit Stop, the track becomes named in the name column of the Tracks window and if I go under the Edit menu it allows for UNDO RECORD which removes the name from that track and REDO RECORD which again places the name on that track but there is clearly no audio on that track. The Graphic Editor Window for that track has no horizotal line running thru the track and the BARS column of the Tracks Window remains at 1

Now I am very confused. :?

You can record when you turn the Metronome on?

To turn off the metronome just click on it once so that it is not highlighted. To change its settings you need to click on the little door on the bottom right of the icon. What I was suggesting is that you open the settings dialog and change the output port from the default Metronome, which uses a plug-in, to a MIDI port.

To bypass initialization of the Metronome the port has to be set to something other than Metronome regardless if the Metronome is currently on or off.

If I click on the Metronome so it's not hilighted than I loose my ability to record

Juke,

Did you do as I suggested by changing the Metronome port first before recording?

Metronome

Postby jukehouse » Sun Jan 23, 2005 4:36 pm

Okay Jerm
Here it is !

I opened the dialog box on the Metronome and changed the output port TO Metronome.

There were only two choices: METRONOME & INTERNAL. It was set on INTERNAL. I wasn't able to RECORD when it was set on internal. I can RECORD with it set on METRONOME.

Earlier when I looked there was only one choice (not really a choice at all then, was it ?)INTERNAL. Somehow the METRONOME choice showed up

Metronome

Postby jukehouse » Sun Jan 23, 2005 4:39 pm

Oh yeah and to further clarify

Earlier I could record with the Metronome Port set on INTERNAL if I had the Metronome turned on.

Does any of this make sense ?

By "earlier" I assume you mean 6.1.

Yes there is something weird with quicktime musical instruments affecting audio.

jukehouse wrote:Does any of this make sense ?

Kind of. The important thing is that everything is recording fine now as long as the metronome setting is not internal. Yes? For example, you can now record fine even with the Metronome off. Right?

And YES recording fine now as long as Metronome setting is not Internal with the Metronome turned off (or on)
