Hi Scoot and Jerm,
I have a iMac G4 800 Mz, 60 Gig, (30 Avail) OsX 10.2.8.
The issue I think is the AudiophileUSB. This is my second one.
The first just died when it was less than a month old. This second one during my last project would do weird things.
During recording and punch-ins, the first take had no distortion or buzz or hum. We'd want to redo the punch (never less than 10 bars) and with no settings touched, the next punch would have all sorts of distortion, pops and buzzes.
The pops would sound like a bad guitar cord except it repeated like it was looped. The buzz was like a SMPTE / midi stripe or clock.
I tried quitting Metro, shutting down, restarting the AudiophileUSB, even updated the driver to 1.5.7f1. It was still sketchy from take to take. I found the way to make it stop without shutting down by saving the song. Open a different song, record a couple of seconds of something. Save it and go back to the original song. That was a quick workaround while in a session.
I have those bad files still in my project folder.
I don't know if they would they help.
BTW... I really am thinking of plunking down cash for a multi in interface but have just started the shopping process. Firewire or usb? Driver issues? Throughput pros and cons? Will 4 be enough inputs...?
