Se limited to 4 audio tracks?

Postby Biffer » Sun Jul 27, 2003 10:49 am

So I'm recording audio and slowly adding instruments and as soon as I pass four they start automatically archiving. I thought the 4 track limit was on how many audio tracks you could record at one time...not play back. So is this true..that I can't play back more than 4 audio tracks at a time?

From the SE products page:

http://www.sagantech.biz/metro/metrose.shtml

Basic Features:

* Up to 4 audio tracks and 2 aux busses.

---------------------------------

Note that you can bounce (mix) up to 4 tracks before archiving the originals. The full version of Metro does not have this limitation.

Do they really start automatically archiving themselves?

On sneaky way around it to extend the use out of 4 tracks.....if you had one track only playing audio in the first few bars and another only at the end, copy and paste them together with a volume change setting between if required to keep to the required levels.

I don't know what the limit is on available tracks to choose from....or even if there is a limit.
You may only be able to play 4 at once but you may be able to pick from a selection of 16 or maybe 100.

I would have hoped for a metro in between full and SE with 8 tracks available to complete the set of Metro apps.
Any other interest in this?
If so at what price point?

Scooterman,

I agree. I could use 8 tracks of digital audio... and the ability to use at least one more AU instrument, rather than the one SE lets me use. The $300 plus price tag is a little too high for my school's budget right now for the full program... although I think it is worth the price.

A mid-level Metro would be nice... maybe priced around $150 or so. Maybe this would cut into the full version sales too much, though.

I was thinking closer to $220. With $100 off full you would be almost getting a full blown version. Like you say another AU would be good.

$150 price tag would probably kill metro full.

8 tracks keeps it up with Protools free and similar apps.
Protools free is probably a bad example as it is free but it is really to show off a protools type rig (or helping you to decide to stay clear of one )

Bang for your buck Metro full is way cheaper than alternatives that are up there at $699 or thereabouts.

It would be nice to fill another niche with a Metro SE8
It would also allow smaller stepping stones along the upgrade path.

Jerm, how do we find out more about the site licences? What is a site licence? Do you give a discount if the buyer is a teacher?

Site licence is usually a cheaper price per copy for several copies or one price for unlimited use on multiple computers for that organization.

Being a teacher would be an education discount.
The school could get a site licence.

Jerm,

I can't justify buying more than one copy of the full Metro to my principal and board right now. I would love to see Metro on each one of our PowerBooks, but I'll have to show the powers-that-be what Metro can do on my forthcoming G5 workstation. We always seem to have plenty of money for hardware, but money for software (and teachers!) isn't as easy to come by. Pretty silly, isn't it? Hopefully I will be able to order the full Metro soon... with a site license in the not-to-distant future!

Thanks for all your help!

Currently we are not offering educational discounts.

Site licenses are available to schools (or others) who want several copies of our products to be installed on several machines. The discount is dependent on the quantity. For more info contact me directly via email.
