Audio track name "schemes"...

When I record audio tracks, why arn't they named the same as the way I name them in Metro.

Example: I have a tune with a working Metro title of "Do You Know?" and have tracks named bass.aif, geetar.aif, kick.aif, snare.aif, etc. The actuall AIF files that get saved are not named the same as the tracks, but are named Do You Know?.AIF, Do You Know?1.AIF, Do You Know?2.AIF, etc...

I've recently upgraded CoolEdit 2000 on my PC to the new Adobe version of CoolEdit Pro ("Audition 1.0") to use for remixing. The PC is faster than my mac and will handle more tracks/effects without bogging down and it would be nice if I could look at a track name and know "what" it is without having to "play" it in the PC's Open dialouge box as I import them into Audition...

Sami,

Track names do not correspond to audio file names. This is an area that should be addressed soon.

Of course there are some intricacies like what happens to the existing referenced files on a track when a track is named and what happens when the same file is referenced by multiple tracks? Certainly in this case the file cannot correspond to the name of all the tracks simultaneously.

In Metro, if you double-click on a region, the file can then be revealed in the finder. Then rename the file to correspond to the track.

In Metro 6.0.8.2 (scheduled for pre-release some time next week), if a track is named before recording (or off-line edit) commences, the newly created audio file will inherit its name from the track.

Way cool. It is such a drag having to audition tracks to figure "what" they are... especially when you are grabbing a "few" of 'em with another app.

Jeremy,

I've used a PC running xP for about a year and a half now and have minimum probs with it. By advocation I am a designer/illustrator and finally had to break down and add a pc because of web issues with the mac. The reality is that it is a pc world out there.... LOL... and I needed to "see" what my pc using cliemts do ;)

I've been doing "art" since 1979 and have discovered that I'm not as interested in the "tool" as I am in the "results".

In my pre computer days (1989-1996) I worked with an Alesis MMT-8 sequencer and a couple of "kid's" casio keyboards. In some ways I wish I still used the Alesis in that I've always felt that dedicated hardware can often be "better" than software for some things.

My current small MIDI setup is mac based (plus my over all computer life)... so Uncle Steve has no fear of loosing a customer, but I still find the mac "limited" in "good" audio apps (I won't really go into other areas where the pc equivalent of some software runs much, much better than da mac version.... imho). That is a great thing about Metro... it's one of da few "good" apps I've seen ;)

For me, the mac/pc combo is giving the best of both worlds.

After all... they are just tools... and as such... have their purposes and usages... :)
