Basic question from new user

Postby elheilig » Thu Jan 29, 2004 12:06 pm

I am wanting to record solo acoustic guitar and sing. How can I first record the guitar part and them later add the vocal (overdub I assume it is called?)?

Thanks.

I would recommend running through the audio recording tutorial.

Assuming you have a good audio input signal, for the first track you simply:
• Go to the tracks window
• Select an audio input and output for a track
• Record-Enable that track
• Press record and play/sing

Then repeat on another track for the vocals. Note that when you select the output you probably want to select a different output channel so that you can adjust faders in the mixer window independently.

"Overdubbing" is not exactly the right term although I understand what you mean. I think all you really want is to record 2 different audio tracks.

I would also recommend going to the transport window (command B) and clicking on the metronome so you have a beat to work along with.

If you don't like the current clicks set for the beats, you can click on the tiny metronome dialog box opener on the bottom right of the button to change the notes used for the beats.
