Testing the select multiple recording tracks bug in 6.3.2.1

Should I expect to hear white noise coming through the headphones after a couple of tracks are set to record if they're allocated to same port?
(Feedback loop created?)

(Warning: Duplicate audio input ports, cables and input selections selected for record.)

Crash has gone.

I really do not know what you mean. Are you using software audio through? Why would you want to record duplicate audio files? The only reason I can think of is to waste space on your hard drive.

It was just a quick attempt to test the previous multiple record track crash and all the tracks were set to the same output.

I thought it was interesting that multiplying a track with nothing on it created audible noise. The mac's in / out I suppose.

What is multiplying a track? Can you tell me exactly what you are doing?

Just clicking record in the tracks menu to a few tracks.

Shift key down click, click, click

Software audio thru OFF removes it.

Obviously if you are recording through a microphone you will get some noise. No?

Yeah but do you expect noise without a mic and nothing plugged in?

Scoot,

I believe you are hearing your Mac's noisy built-in audio and other assorted interference from the computer. Jeremy, please correct me if I'm wrong - when you record enable a bunch of audio tracks with the same source (and software audio thru enabled), there is an additive affect regarding the noise at the source. If you were to actually multi-record, the resulting individual files would also have the noise from the source. Playing all of them together would again cause that additive affect. Disabling software audio thru only prevents you from monitoring it live while recording (or simply with the tracks record-enabled). Also, because you were listening to silence (or almost silence), I'll bet you had the volume jacked up pretty high - which also raises the noise floor.

I tried this in Digital Performer and got the same kind of noise (except that I could only record enable TWO mono tracks . . . I love Metro!). Anyway, I guess there's good reason why some invest in an audio interface (I have my eye on the Motu Traveler).

Mike

I guess this is why a 44.1khz / 16 bit sample was chosen in the first place - it's out of normal hearing to hear such a thing (the floor is low and if you boost it this way it becomes audible).

Least I'm not getting tinnitus in the ears.

Is this a quick way to record a voice and turn it into a choir?

Yes, a choir is a great idea!

How about recording eight identical tracks at once, with a unique effects chain for each track . . . Metro as an experimental performance tool!
