Metro 6 save in .aif, quicktime, mp3 formats?

I haven't used my Metro 5 for a couple of years and have since changed to OS 10.3.3. I can't tell from the demo or documentation what formats are available for exporting my MIDI files (the Save As is greyed out).

Was once a pro composer but am now retired and just have occaisional need to record via my MIDI keyboard. Tunes i write are intended to be burned to a CD to be played on my DVD/CD/Audio CD player by Sony.

I could do this on Metro 5 and assume the new versions do also but can't tell for sure.

Also, any suggestions on which version i should upgrade to? I prefer the LX OS-X native idea but am open to assistance in making my decision.

If you need notation, the full version is possibly required.

There is no risk if you buy SE as you can upgrade to the others for the exact price difference.

As far as formats go, you have the standard type of midi files, then the metro native formats along with bundles to store everything and then the audio formats.


You have either standard or quicktime export.

Standard export would be AIFF.

With quicktime, you get AIFF, Sys 7 Snds, MPEG4, AVI, Wave, ulaw, qtime, 3GPP.
These are the formats in Metro.
I assume you'd get most if not all of the audio formats in SE and LX.
You DO NOT get the video formats according to the metro comparison chart on the site.

I don't know if you've noticed with your demo'ing of 6, but it is a bit of a leap from 5 though they look similar.

All of the version of OS X native. Just because LX does not run under OS 9 does not mean that the full version and the SE version are not OS X native.

As for the formats, Metro does not directly write MP3 files. This is because MP3 format requires a license to write and therefore Metro & Quicktime do not support the direct writing of them. Metro does write Ogg Vorbis files. If you need MP3 it is a relatively minor task of exporting AIFF and going over to iTunes to convert them to MP3.

Yes. Drag them from the finder or the jukebox to the graphic editor should do it.
