I need help from you talented musicians. I'm a graphic designer with a G5. I have a 17 year old son who started taking a Music Tech class in high school. He's shown amazing talent since September (he's played the piano and drums for a number of years). For Christmas, we bought him a Casio WK1800 76-Key GM Keyboard, a MIDI, but no software. Since it's a surprise, I kinda asked what applications he used - and he brought up Metro. He said there's Band In A Box, but he liked Metro because it wasn't just a bunch of preset effects - you have to actually know what you are doing.

Finally, my question (sorry): Since the keyboard isn't a top of the line - but a good value for $225, should I opt for the Metro 6 G4 version, or is the SE version sufficient? Seems like the SE is pretty limited compared to the full-blown version, but then I don't really know what features are important and which aren't. He produced a song for their Christmas CD which had 42 tracks, so he seems to know what he's doing.

Thanks in advance.

PS- This thing has video capabilities too? How would that fit in with iMovie?

If this means you just received a G5, congratulations.

I would think, although we do not have one in house yet, that because the G5 supports the altivec (128 bit) processor of the G4, that the Metro G4 version would provide some noticeable performance improvement over the regular Metro (non-G4) version.

With 42 tracks I would say he needs the full version. The full version includes both the G4 and non-G4 versions.
